David J. Lamagna serves as an expert in law enforcement, engineering and forensic science

    ANDOVER, MA, January 15, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David J. Lamagna, BSc, MSc, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Drawing on over three decades of expertise, Mr. Lamagna specializes in law enforcement, engineering and forensic science. Since 1993, he has built a prolific career as a forensic scientist, engineer, general manager, and owner of American Forensic Technologies LLC. In this capacity, he is responsible for conducting professional investigations in multiple states as a licensed private investigator, and performing forensic reviews of homicides, crime/shooting scene investigations, forensic evidence examinations, field investigations, etc. for defense attorneys, the courts, and others by utilizing state-of-the-art science and engineering technology. Prior to this role, Mr. Lamagna served as an undergraduate engineering teaching assistant. He also worked within the industrial machinery, plastics, and metal working industries for approximately 14 years prior to his work at the University of Massachusetts Lowell as a teaching assistant. Mr. Lamagna also worked in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Police Constable from 1989 until 2011 investigating the whereabouts of fugitives from justice, and arresting these fugitives from justice when found by he and his fellow law enforcement officers, and then transporting them to the courts, other agencies, or prison.

After graduating from St. John's Preparatory School in Danvers, Massachusetts in 1973, and before embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Lamagna pursued an education at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Plastics Engineering, with a minor in Biology in 1977. He continued his academic efforts at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell, where he obtained a Master of Science degree in Materials Science and Engineering with a minor in Biotechnology in 1998. And, he completed more than 50% of his doctorate coursework in engineering and biotechnology by 2003. In addition to his formal university academic training, Mr. Lamagna has also completed approximately two thousand (2000) hours of specialized law enforcement, forensic, and IT training programs. As a commitment to his field, he has been active with several related professional organizations, including The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Microscopy Society of America, the American Society for Law Enforcement Training, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the American Society for Biomechanics, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the International Association for Identification (IAI), and more. Mr. Lamagna also holds a US Patent for a Time-Temperature Gauge, US Patent Number 5,662,419. He is also a highly trained microscopist. Mr. Lamagna performed the first Gunshot Residue (GSR) test in Massachusetts in 1994 utilizing a Scanning Electron Microscope outfitted with Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (SEM/EDX).

Well-regarded for his contributions to the field, Mr. Lamagna has been featured on various local news channels and in The Boston Phoenix, the Los Angeles Times, and the Sentinel and Enterprise magazines. Among his professional accomplishments, he is most proud of his involvement in introducing state-of-the-art engineering technology and practices into the forensic firearm and tool mark identification field. Additionally, he takes pride in utilizing the scientific designs and technology within his specialty. Reflecting on a long career, he attributes much of his achievements to his perseverance, independence, sensibility, determination and strive for success. Looking toward the future, Mr. Lamagna aspires to collaborate with a domestic or a foreign law enforcement agency that is willing to invest in advanced technological developments for criminal investigations and forensic work.
