Following this period, he went on to serve as a senior auditor at George Johnson & Company, where he executed audits and reviewed financial statements for a variety of organizations in all sectors between 2005 and 2007. Concurrent with his current work at Tarraf and Associates, he also functioned as an audit officer for the United Nations Development Programme in Beirut, Lebanon, from 2018 until 2019.
Outside of his primary efforts as a certified public accountant (CPA), Dr. Tarraf has found further success in the field of academia. Specializing in accounting, he has availed himself as a professor at various higher education institutions, including Oakland University, the University of Notre Dame and the American University of Beirut since 2010. Presently, he is the program director of accounting at Madonna University, where he has taught students as an associate professor since 2021. In this role, he counsels graduate-level students and teaches courses in financial accounting, forensic accounting, taxation and fraud examination.
Well-regarded for his inimitable contributions to the field, Dr. Tarraf has been a driving force and participant at several industry conferences and symposia, many of which have been hosted by MICPA and the Lebanese chapter of ACFE, of which he is the current founding president. He has also been sought out for his expert opinion on a number of matters at several peer-reviewed proceedings, such as the International Istanbul Finance Congress in 2013, the International Conference of the Academic and Business Research Institute in 2013 and the Conference on Corporate Governance and the Global Financial Crisis in 2010.
Dr. Tarraf's articles have also been featured extensively in such professional publications as the Journal of Insurance and Financial Management, the Journal of Finance and Accountancy, the International Research Journal of Applied Finance, the Global Journal of Business Research and the TAXPRO Journal. To remain aware of developments in the field, he maintains his affiliation with the Lebanese International Business Council, for which he was the vice president between 2010 and 2011, and the aforementioned taxation and CPA organizations.
Known for his contributions as a civic advocate, Dr. Tarraf is the founder of the Tarraf Foundation, a nonprofit organization that seeks to assist underprivileged Lebanese students in securing an effective college education amid the economic crisis that currently grips their country. Additionally, he has been a board member of the Arab American Political Action Committee, which has aided Arab American residents in Dearborn, Michigan, since 1998.
To prepare for his career, Dr. Tarraf earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from The Lebanese University in 1998, after which he attended Wayne State University, receiving a Master of Business Administration in 2001. Following this accomplishment, he attained a Doctor of Business Administration from Lawrence Technological University in 2012.
