Richard K. Ahrenkiel, PhD Lauded for Excellence in Semiconductor Diagnostics

Richard Ahrenkstarting years of experience into his work with Lakewood Semiconductors

He takes the most pride in being part of the team that developed materials specifically designed for electrifying satellites at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

LAKEWOOD, CO, February 01, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Richard Ahrenkiel has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

An accomplished semiconductor diagnostics expert, Dr. Ahrenkiel excels as the owner and chief technical officer of Lakewood Semiconductors, which specializes in recombination measurements or minority-carrier lifetimes in microelectronic, photovoltaic, and optoelectronic materials. Alongside his work with Lakewood, he leverages his considerable experience as a research professor for the Colorado School of Mines, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate classes. Similarly, Dr. Ahrenkiel is an emeritus researcher for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

During the early stages of his career, Dr. Ahrenkiel gained valuable expertise as an adjunct professor for the Colorado School of Mines and with Eastman Kodak Company, through which he contributed to the invention of the digital camera. Due to his vast knowledge, he has contributed to numerous books and articles, including "Theory and Methods of Photovoltaic Material Charaterization: Optical and Electrical Measurement Techniques" and "Dual-sensor technique for characterization of carrier lifetime decay and transients in semiconductors."

Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Ahrenkiel studied at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for two years. Subsequently, he completed a Bachelor of Science in engineering physics, a master's degree, and a PhD in physics. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, he aligns himself with the IEEE, the American Physical Society, and the Optical Society of America.

In light of his professional achievements, Dr. Ahrenkiel earned the Alumni of the Year Award from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. While his career has been filled with standout moments, he takes the most pride in being part of the team that developed materials specifically designed for electrifying satellites at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Through their research, he helped create new cell materials that were a combination of three semiconductor components. Another highlight was writing an article for Optica Magazine that described the invention and early efforts of the small research group that invented the digital camera at Eastman Kodak Laboratories in the early 1970s. Looking ahead, Dr. Ahrenkiel intends to experience the continued growth and success of his career.
