The Persona IQ, is the world's first and only smart knee implant approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for total knee replacement surgery. As Dr. Niesen said, "This new to the world technology provides important and objective data directly from the knee implant following surgery."
Prior to his current role, Dr. Niesen worked and trained as a resident in orthopedics at the University of California, Los Angeles Health System and was Chief Resident in 2014. Following this, he completed additional training in joint replacement surgery with the Mayo Clinic in 2015. He began his career as an orthopedic surgeon with Prairie Ridge Health in 2015 where he served as the hospital Chief of Staff and a hospital board member from 2018 until 2022. In addition, he served as a clinical assistant professor for the Medical College of Wisconsin, working with medical students rotating through clinical rotations. In addition, he has served as a medical expert for the Crawford Evaluation Group since 2017 and is a member of the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
Dr. Niesen has been recognized with numerous awards as a healthcare provider over the past several years and is consistently recognized for the high level of care he provides to his patients. Over the past eight years, Dr. Niesen has consistently received praise from his patients and Press Ganey. Dr. Niesen has also received multiple Compassionate Doctor Awards and Patient's Choice Awards. In 2023, he was nominated for a prestigious Petals Award, and in 2018, Dr. Niesen was recognized as one of "America's Top Orthopedists in Hip and Knee Replacement."
Dr. Niesen earned a Bachelor of Science in 2005 from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He was a walk-on for the Wisconsin Bader football team in 2000-2001. In 2009, Dr. Niesen graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health at the top of his class, as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) honor society, and with additional honors in research. Following these achievements, he completed a residency in orthopedic surgery from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2014 and an additional, prestigious fellowship in hip, knee and shoulder replacement at the Mayo Clinic in 2015. He subsequently attained a Master of Health Administration from Cornell University in 2021.
Looking to the future, Dr. Niesen intends to grow his orthopedic practice and keep providing exceptional care to his patients, eventually looking to transition into a leadership role, potentially in a healthcare system or the political arena.
