TURTON, SD, March 01, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Charlene Barrie, owner of Char's Kitchen, was selected by Marquis Who's Who for a prominent feature in the South/North Dakota regional edition of Forbes magazine.

Inspired by the process of baking, gardening and canning while coming of age, Charlene Barrie recalls a time when she sold select baked goods and homemade jelly at flea markets to the locals of Turton, South Dakota. This exposure proved invaluable as she was contacted by buyers who ultimately became repeat customers. In 1995, Ms. Barrie established Char's Kitchen, through which she has enjoyed success with a myriad of patrons. After just three years in business, she expanded her kitchen to a 14-by-28-foot "jelly house," located on her family's farm.

Since the inception of her business, Ms. Barrie has progressed her line of jellies to include 16 regular flavors and five sugar-free varieties. Additionally, she markets seven unique flavors of syrup and honey, five types of pickles, and two salsa options. The kitchen's flavors include apple butter, chokeberry, elderberry, green jalapeno, pumpkin butter, wild plum, raspberry jalapeno, and strawberry rhubarb. In a standard year, Ms. Barrie utilizes 12,000 jars in three different sizes, as well as two tons of sugar, 1,000 pounds of rhubarb, and 1,600 pounds of chokecherries. In addition to private sales, she is aligned with Crazy Horse National Monument and local grocery stores and gift shops in both North Dakota and Minnesota.

Lauded for her diligent work ethic, Ms. Barrie devotes 40 to 60 hours per week to her craft and is humbled by the ongoing, consistent demand she receives from her loyal customers. In her endeavors, she receives invaluable support from her husband, Rolland Barrie, and her six daughters, one of whom (Glenda) introduced her to the practice of electronic label-making, which has been an excellent advancement for production.

Prior to founding Char's Kitchen, Ms. Barrie was employed by Viking Rubber as an office administrator. A member of the Professional Women's Association, she is active as a board member of the VFW's Auxiliary and is a former president of the Conde American Legion. Ms. Barrie intends to ease into a well-deserved retirement in the coming years.

Ms. Barrie received a Diamond Award from Carrington Publishers in 2022 and a Pinnacle Professional Award from Continental Who's Who in 2021. She was also included in Stanford Who's Who in 2010 and 2011. In 2020, Ms. Barrie was recognized as a Top Professional by Marquis Who's Who. Additionally, she received the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020 and was recognized among Who's Who of Professional Women in 2022.
