James R. Holland shared his professional achievements and industry expertise in Architectural Digest



A writer, real estate developer, book reviewer and photographer, James R. Holland has distinguished himself in a career spanning over five decades.

    BOSTON, MA, March 01, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- James R. Holland, author and real estate company officer with A Bit of Boston, was selected by Marquis Who's Who for a prominent feature in the Massachusetts regional edition of Architectural Digest.

A writer, real estate developer, book reviewer and photographer, James R. Holland has distinguished himself in a career spanning over five decades. Since 1982, he has thrived as the president of A Bit of Boston Real Estate Inc. Earlier, he was a contract photographer for National Geographic from 1967 to 1968 and a film producer with the Christian Science Center in Boston from 1969 to 1974. Subsequently, he was a real estate developer and president of Brownstone Properties Inc. in Boston from 1975 to 1977 and a real estate broker for Street & Co. Inc. from 1978 to 1982.

Mr. Holland has been a columnist and movie critic for Basil & Spice, A Partner McClatchy-Tribune News Service since 2009, and an associate of the Boston Public Library since 2000. With a wealth of published works to his credit, he most recently authored "Fisheyes," "Boston's Notable Addresses: Historic Homes & the Residents That Made Them So" and "Seeking God: The Religious Paintings of William O'Keefe" in 2011, having previously published the 2010 work "Politics: Puns and Parody," the 2009 work "Waffle: A Beacon Hill Dog" and the 2008 work "Santa's Elves Revolt." Furthermore, he wrote "Tanglewood" in 1973 and "The Amazon" in 1971, as well as co-authored the second edition of "Photojournalism: Principles and Practice" in 1980.

Mr. Holland pursued formal education at Principia College, undertaking undergraduate coursework between 1962 and 1964. During this time, he wrote his first book, "Thirteen Scribbles and a Scratch." Thereafter, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Ohio University in 1966 and completed postgraduate coursework at the University of Missouri School of Journalism. Subsequently, Mr. Holland completed a photography internship through the National Geographic Society and obtained his real estate broker's license.

Producing several film broadcasts on NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, BBC and The Travel Channel, Mr. Holland's work has been included in the permanent collections of the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library & Museum and Boston Public Library, among other institutions. He credits much of his success to his wife, Helen, who is a beacon of light, support and encouragement.

Mr. Holland was featured in the article "A Conversation with a Boston Collector on Picasso, Dali and Much More" in 2018. In light of his literary prowess, he was honored with the Next Generation Indie Book Award, the Eric Hoffer Excellence Award, various accolades from the National Press Photographers Association, the 1967 World Press Competition Award and the 1969 Documentary Film Award from Newsweek and Bolex. He also won the Individuals Photography Film Competition Award in 1970, a Bronze Medal from the International Film and Television Festival in New York in 1971, and awards from USA Book News from 2008 to 2009. Moreover, Mr. Holland was recognized among Amazon's Top 500 Reviewers between 2007 and 2010, among many other honors.
