Leveraging more than two decades of excellence in the field of nursing, Kim has established herself as a nursing advocate, author, speaker, coach, motivator, and connector. Most recently, she has earned distinction as the director of nursing for Alameda Health Systems. Since the early 2000s, she has focused her efforts on creating nursing conferences and other events to increase diversity in nursing, and combat health disparities among Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC). Her efforts have touched multiple universities and built relationships with her fellows in the San Francisco Bay Area community. Additionally, she has served as a registered nurse risk coordinator and quality coordinator for Kaiser Permanente from 2011 to 2017.
She co-authored "The Diaries of a Resilient Black Nurse: An Anthology of Struggles and Achievements of Black Nurses in America" in 2021. She is also executive producer of her yet to be released show on Hip Hop TV, Health Diary Conversations with Nurse Kim J. Prior to her current position, Ms. Scott served as a house supervisor for Kaiser Permanente in 2006 and was promoted to a service unit manager for chronic condition case managers from 2008 to 2011 and 2017 until 2023.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Scott earned an associate degree in health sciences from Merritt College in 1994. Following this achievement, she attained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of San Francisco in 1997. She subsequently gained a Master of Science in Nursing and a Master of Business Administration from Holy Names College in 2008. She is a valued member of the Bay Area Black Nurses Association, the Association of California Nurse Leaders, and the American Nurses Association. She is also the immediate past national chair of the NBNA Collaborative Mentorship Program. She has served as Conference Chair of the Florence Stroud Black History Month Nursing Conference Series for nearly a decade. Additionally, she serves as a Community Advisory consultant for the UCSF, Alzheimer's Association, and National Black Nurses Association AHEAD project to increase education, awareness, and participation in clinical trials among African Americans for dementia. Ms. Scott is a board member for the African American Wellness Project. Kimberly has made ushering in the next generation of nurses her business.
Within the coming years, Ms. Scott intends to prioritize nursing, mentorship and establishing a more robust infrastructure and pipeline for nurses who have faced significant obstacles or were unable to pursue higher education due to their family background. She has a passion for mentoring and loves to serve and speak about building community. Kim refers to the community as Common Unity.
