    NEW YORK, NY, March 04, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Susan Matorin, MS, LCSW, ACSW, senior lecturer of social work in psychiatry with Weill Cornell Medicine, was selected by Marquis Who's Who for a prominent feature in the Manhattan regional edition of Vogue magazine.

Susan Matorin is a distinguished name in academia and psychiatry, having accrued more than 50 years of professional excellence. Currently excelling as a senior lecturer on social work in psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City, she focuses on educating others on the intricacies of psychiatry concerning behavioral conditions affecting individuals and families. Alongside this appointment, Ms. Matorin is the chair of the Lucille Austin Lectureship Committee for the Columbia School of Social Work, a board member of the Helen Rehr Center for Social Work Practice and an executive committee member of the Metropolitan chapter of the Society for Social Work Leaders in Health Care. She currently treats individuals, couples and families with significant mental health problems.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Matorin served in a myriad of roles in relation to medicine, commencing her career as chief of social work at Washington Heights Community Service at the New York Psychiatric Institute in 1966. As her career progressed, she also served as an adjunct associate professor at the Columbia School of Social Work, the chief of ambulatory social work in psychiatry at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, and the director of social work at The Payne Whitney Clinic, as part of the NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Furthermore, Ms. Matorin spent time as a program director and treatment coordinator on the Affective Disorder Team at the Cornell Psychiatry Intensive Outpatient Program.

A frequent speaker on topics related to health care, Ms. Matorin is also a published author, penning a myriad of articles and letters to the editor. Notably, she contributed her expertise as a writer of the articles "Digital Psychotherapy" in 2021 and "What Holds a Marriage Together, or Doesn't" in 2022 in The New York Times. Her work has also been highlighted in the Social Work Journal, and she was featured in high-profile periodicals such as The Wall Street Journal, Forbes and Bloomberg.

Ms. Matorin credits the influence of her late husband, Dr. Richard Charles Friedman, as a factor leading to her success. Remarkably, her husband conducted pioneering work for the LGBTQ+ community. Looking forward, she endeavors to help eradicate the stigma associated with mental illness.

Ms. Matorin holds a Bachelor of Arts from Vassar College, a Master of Science in social work from Columbia University, a certification as a social worker from the State of New York and a license as a clinical social worker from the Academy of Certified Social Workers.

Ms. Matorin was honored with the Distinguished Service Medal from Columbia University in 1989, the Centennial Award in 1998, the Hyman J. Weiner Award from the Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care in 2006, and the Ellen Perlman Simon Mentor Award from the Society for Social Work Leaders in Health Care in 2021. She was also nominated for Social Work Director of the Year by the Metropolitan chapter of the Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care in 1995.
