NORTHVILLE, MI, March 06, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- George Shaska, MEng, SSBBC, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected based on current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all considered during the selection process.

Mr. Shaska is a global electrical chief architect for electrification, specializing in the development of electric propulsion systems, including high voltage batteries, power electronics, inverters, charging, drive unit, and thermal management. He has extensive experience of complete vehicle architecture and possesses an interest in software and electronics architecture. During his studies and across all his professional positions, Mr. Shaska has consistently sought out challenging opportunities to take on leadership roles in the development of future automotive systems to enhance the efficiency and quality of human mobility.

Starting at General Motors in 2016, Mr. Shaska first served as a global electrical chief architect for electrification, focusing on embedded platform execution for GM's digital VIP (vehicle intelligence platform). After over five years in that role, he took on a position focused on electrification and autonomous architecture in innovation and advanced engineering for Cadillac Halo concept vehicles of the future. Most recently, in 2023, Mr. Shaska became an electric chief architect, with a focus on software defined vehicle mechatronics. As an end-to-end functional architect, he is currently assembling and leading the Ultium Platform—General Motor's battery electric vehicle platform—into General Motor's Software Defined Vehicle Architecture, which focused on hardware and software integration testing and encompasses the company's next generation of electric vehicles for Hummer, LYRIQ, and Silverado, among others.

In reflecting on the projects and opportunities that punctuate his career so far, Mr. Shaska cites this current project at General Motors as the highlight of his career. In addition to his extensive background in electrifying ground transportation, Mr. Shaska has been at the forefront of the eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) technology project at GM. He recounted how, in 2019, his trip on Uber Copter from Manhattan/Brooklyn to JFK International Airport sparked the idea that GM was well-suited to develop eVTOL, envisioning a comprehensive solution integrated with autonomous vehicles for customers. He elaborated on the challenges he faced in presenting this concept within GM, eventually taking it to the Senior Vice President of Strategy and Innovation to propose the project. At CES 2021, General Motors unveiled the futuristic Cadillac eVTOL. Along with his recent professional experience, he holds both a Bachelor of Science with double major in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering and Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Oakland University as well as a Master of Engineering in Energy Systems Engineering from the University of Michigan. During his graduate studies, Mr. Shaska contributed to the development of several patents related to heating element operation and engine stop-start availability and control.

Prior to earning his degree, Mr. Shaska first gained experience working as hybrid controls engineer at Getrag before stepping into the role of senior battery controls engineer at A123 Systems. His experience working in the early days of Li-Ion batteries at A123 Systems gave him the passion to dedicate his career to electric propulsion technologies. At A123 Systems, he worked on High Voltage battery core electronics for GM's Chevy Spark and Fisker Karma as well as lead engineer for Battery Management Systems for the first 12V Li-Ion battery production in the world for McLaren MP4-12C and Ferrari LaFerrari. In 2013, he joined the Ford Motor Company, where he contributed as a senior electrified powertrain controls systems engineer, earning the Powertrain Engineering Achievement Award from the company, until his career transition to General Motors. Coupled with his field experience and degrees, Mr. Shaska holds a Six Sigma Black Belt Certification, level III, and is SAFe® certified. In addition to his certifications, he is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Society of Automotive Engineers, and Scaled Agile Inc.

In all he has accomplished as an engineer, Mr. Shaska attributes his success to his hard work and the opportunities he has been fortunate to receive in the automotive industry. Looking forward, he has set a goal to contribute toward the future of ground transportation through all-electric future over the next three to five years. Additionally, he wishes to participate in the electrification of other areas of transportation, such as air and water. Outside of his professional pursuits, Mr. Shaska is a sports fan, particular of soccer, basketball, and American football. In addition, Mr. Shaska likes to travel with his family and volunteers in his community by building houses and providing meals for the homeless.
