Michael Calhoun has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

A leader in Oregon's conservation community, Mr. Calhoun has established himself as an expert in river restoration and conservation through his role as board chair at Columbia Soil and Water Conservation District. He also serves as chair of the Upper Nehalem Watershed Council, where, since 2021, he has been instrumental in promoting sustainable watershed management practices. From 2021 to 2024, he contributed his expertise to the Columbia County Parks Advisory Committee and chaired the Vernonia Public Works Committee. His dedication to environmental causes has been further evidenced by his tenure as an associate director at the Columbia Soil and Water Conservation District and his involvement with the Environmental Caucus State Central Committee Delegate for the Democratic Party of Oregon.

Mr. Calhoun's career is marked by a series of notable achievements, including being elected to a special district by Columbia County voters and receiving endorsements from prominent organizations, such as the Sierra Club and Our Revolution. His efforts were recognized when he was honored for planting a Peace Tree in Vernonia by the Oregon Department of Forestry; a Hiroshima Peace Tree symbolizes peace between Japan and the United States, which he worked tirelessly for over a year to bring to his hometown.

Building upon his professional endeavors, Mr. Calhoun's academic background has been pivotal in his success. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in environmental studies from the University of Oregon in 2021 and a Bachelor of Arts in communication studies from Western Oregon University in 2015. The support of his parents has been a cornerstone of his achievements, providing him with the confidence to pursue activities that have shaped him into the leader he is today.

In addition to his professional commitments, Mr. Calhoun is actively involved with community service programs such as Adopt a Highway Program with the Oregon Department of Transportation and SKYWARN Storm Spotter with the National Weather Service. His contributions have not gone unnoticed; he has been bestowed with multiple accolades, including a 2023 Oregon Urban and Community Forestry Award from Oregon Department of Forestry and Oregon Community Trees, a 2023 Daily Point of Light Award from Points of Light, and a 2023 Board Leadership Academy Gold Certificate from Special Districts Association of Oregon. He is also a 2014 listee of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges Award.

Outside of his career, Mr. Calhoun finds solace and inspiration in nature through hiking and running.
