An expert in her field, Dr. Ballan earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a master's degree in computer science, both in her birth country, Turkiye. As a neurodivergent individual, she expanded her professional knowledge by studying the brain at Florida Atlantic University, through which she received a PhD in complex systems and brain sciences in 2010.
Throughout the years Dr. Ballan has contributed to her community and various professional groups as a STEM leader at the University of Texas campuses, a mentor to women in STEM through MentorNet, and an independent high-impact ambassador for Women in Data Science Worldwide.
