Marquis Who's Who Honors Jennifer O'Brien for Expertise in Health Care: Health Services/Mental Wellness/Therapy

Jennifer O'Brien honored for her dedication to mental wellness and therapy



In light of her success, Ms. O'Brien was honored with The Most Evidence-Based Practices in a Program Award from Resources for Human Development in 2015.

    PITTSBURGH, PA, March 25, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jennifer O'Brien has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. Ms. O'Brien is lauded for her expertise as a professional counselor and research clinician with a commendable career spanning 25 years. Currently associated with My Wellness Center and the University of Pittsburgh, she has served in her present roles since 2023 and 2024, respectively. At the University of Pittsburgh, Ms. O'Brien is deeply involved in a research project examining postpartum depression and its impact on the mother-child emotional bond. Additionally, at My Wellness Center, she provides counseling services to clients, drawing upon her extensive expertise in wellness, professional counseling, mental health, schizophrenia, psychotic disorders, substance-related disorders, and trauma.

Ms. O'Brien's career trajectory reflects her dedication to the field of mental health and recovery treatment. She began as a crisis/mental health therapist at Mercy Behavioral Health in 1999 has worked at the Hemophilia Center of Western Pennsylvania in 2012, transitioned to an HIV educator role at the University of Pittsburgh in 2013, and was a hospice therapist for Forbes Hospice. Her leadership skills were further honed as a clinical supervisor at Resources for Human Development's C.O.R.E., where she served from 2014 to 2017. Following this, Ms. O'Brien took on the clinical specialist role at Resources for Human Development Mainstay until 2020. Her administrative acumen was further showcased during her tenure as the Executive Director of the Harbor Light Center for The Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Division in Pittsburgh from 2020 to 2023. Prior to her current positions, she also made significant contributions as a Clinical Administrator of Recovery Treatment Services at Chartiers Center in 2023.

Throughout her career, Ms. O'Brien has been recognized for her innovative approach to recovery treatment programs and her research contributions. She was also honored to present her research on Adlerian Therapy at the Pennsylvania Counseling Association Conference in Harrisburg, PA in November 2023. With an eye toward the future, Ms. O'Brien is committed to further developing her professional identity by embracing new opportunities to enhance her knowledge and skills in counseling.

Aside from her work-related endeavors, Ms. O'Brien leads an active personal life with a passion for charity work. She has been involved in various fundraising events to support causes such as the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Moreover, Ms. O'Brien volunteers with the Light of Life Rescue Mission and various local food and clothing drives.

In preparation for her career, Ms. O'Brien earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and biology from Waynesburg University in 1998 and a Master of Arts in clinical psychology from Duquesne University in 1999. Furthering her education, she is obtaining a Master of Science in Professional Counseling from Carlow University in 2024. Moreover, Ms. O'Brien received credentials as an instructor through Mental Health First Aid Connect in 2021 and certification as an advanced alcohol and drug counselor in 2022. She recently obtained certification in diversity, equity, and inclusion and is also actively pursuing licensure as a behavioral specialist and Professional Counselor through the state of Pennsylvania Medical Board and Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors, respectively.

To remain aware of developments in her field, Ms. O'Brien is a member of the American Counseling Association and the American Psychological Association. She is also a member of the Pennsylvania Society of Sexual, Affectional, Intersex, and Gender Expansive Communities, an affiliate of the Pennsylvania Counseling Association, and the Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling.

In light of her success, Ms. O'Brien was honored with The Most Evidence-Based Practices in a Program Award from Resources for Human Development in 2015. She also received a Leadership Development Award for her exceptional work. In addition to these accolades, Ms. O'Brien was inducted into the Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society International in 2023.
