Josephine I. Ebomoyi, Ph.D. Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Education

Dr. Ebomoyi has also given several clinical presentations at the American Society for Microbiology Conference for Undergraduate Educators.

    OAK LAWN, IL, April 02, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Josephine Ebomoyi has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A seasoned educator with years of professional experience, Dr. Ebomoyi excels as an associate microbiology professorial lecturer, at St. Xavier University. Likewise, she was an assistant professor at Northern Illinois University teaching microbiology to clinical laboratory science students. Through her work, she teaches microbiology to nursing students, designs laboratory lessons, and mentors Biology major research students and new hires in Biology department. Due to her vast breadth of knowledge, Dr. Ebomoyi has also given several clinical presentations at the American Society for Microbiology Conference for Undergraduate Educators.

Before starting her professional journey, Dr. Ebomoyi earned a Bachelor of Science in microbiology from Obafemi Awolowo University. Subsequently, she received a Master of Science in public health from the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, a Ph.D. in Biological Science Education from the University of Northern Colorado, and a clinical lab scientist certification through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Ebomoyi aligns herself with the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), the American Public Health Association (APHA), and the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS).

In addition to her work, Dr. Ebomoyi has contributed to her community as president of St. Maria Goretti Old Girls International (GOGI) and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Program at St. Xavier University. She is a pioneer member of Choosing wisely, American Society of Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) committee, an initiative whose mission is to promote conversations between clinicians and patients by ensuring adequate patient care that is supported by evidence. She has also been a microbiology judge during student Quiz bowl activities in ASCLS meetings and has been a member, advisory committee to admit potential medical laboratory science students.

Given her professional achievements, she received many Travel Awards from the American Society for Microbiology's Annual Conference and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Women of Color. Likewise, Dr. Ebomoyi received recognition from the Research Experience in Microbiome Network (REMNET). She is also a fellow of the Promoting Active Learning and Mentoring (PALM) network, a program sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Some of her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Microbiology and Biology Education (JMBE) and CourseSource Journal.

While her career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Ebomoyi takes the most pride in obtaining her Ph.D. and current role during the COVID-19 pandemic when she excelled in the challenge of developing innovative microbiology labs which stimulated students' metacognitive and critical thinking skills while learning online and in-person format. She intends to experience her career's continued growth and success in the coming years. Ultimately, Dr. Ebomoyi aims to develop a school of clinical lab science, create more opportunities for others, and teach her students how the things they learn relate to everyday life.
