H. Lane Dennard Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

After earning a Bachelor of Arts from Mercer University in 1966, Mr. Dennard served in the United States Army as a captain and company commander in Vietnam, earning the Silver Star, two awards of the Purple Heart, the Air Medal, and Combat Infantry Badge. Upon returning from the service, he completed a JD at the University of Georgia School of Law and began his career with Ogletree Deakins in Greenville, SC, and subsequently served as managing partner of its Atlanta office. In 1991 he joined King & Spalding in Atlanta and retired as a senior partner in 2003. Mr. Dennard was an adjunct professor at the University of Georgia School of Law, the Mercer University School of Law, and Emory University Law School. Through his work with Emory University, he also served as co-founder and co-director of the Emory Law Volunteer Clinic for Veterans. From 2010 until 2020, he dedicated a substantial amount of time and resources to the pro bono legal representation of veterans including assisting with service-connected disability claims before the Department of Veterans Affairs.

As a part of his law practice, Mr. Dennard has authored and co-authored several publications, including "Collateral Consequences of Arrests and Convictions: Policy and Law in Georgia" and articles in the Georgia Law Review and the Employee Relations Law Journal. Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Dennard was honored during his public service with the Thomas More Award for commitment to humanity in difficult circumstances. He was admitted as Fellow in the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, and in 2015 received the Emory Law School's EPIC Inspiration Award for outstanding leadership in the public interest. He was also honored as Volunteer of the Year by the Georgia Justice Project, received the Georgia Bar's Marshall-Tuttle Award in 2011 as the Top Lawyer in the State providing pro bono services to Veterans, and was listed among the Leading Labor and Employment Lawyers in Georgia by Chambers USA.
