Subsequently, he earned an associate degree in architectural technology from the Washington Technical Institution and served his country for two years in the U.S. Army. Over the years, Mr. Mills furthered his education, completing a Bachelor of Architecture from Howard University. He worked with the Goddard Space Flight Center and as a draftsman, architectural technician, and design manager for DC Public Schools.
Drawing on his considerable industry experience, Mr. Mills gained valuable expertise in project management and architecture in various roles with the DC Department of Public and Assisted Housing, the Office of Public Education Facilities Modernization, and the DC Department of General Services, through which he managed renovations and additions to government buildings. A seasoned construction and architectural expert with a proven track record of success in project management, Mr. Mills is the chief executive officer and the Architectural Services Association, LLC, which he also founded.
Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Mr. Mills earned an AutoCad certification in 2014 and maintains professional affiliation with the American Institute of Architects and the Construction Specifications Institute. In conjunction with his work, he contributes to his community via the Hemingway Memorial AME Church. Previously, Mr. Mills has also dedicated himself to others through the Vietnam Veterans of America, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the National Museum of African American History & Culture Library, the United Negro College Fund, and the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
In 1967, in recognition of his professional achievements, Mr. Mills earned a Bronze Star Medal with a "V" Device and a Combat Infantryman's Badge. Throughout his career, he has also been recognized with the Outstanding Young Men of America Award, the Outstanding Performance Evaluation Award, and the Man of the Year Award from the African Methodist Episcopal Church. While his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. Mills takes the most pride in overseeing several projects from inception to completion.
Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, Mr. Mills credits his success to his education and work experience.
