ROCKVILLE, MD, April 09, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Godfrey Woelk has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Drawing on years of professional expertise in patient-centered research, HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment, Dr. Woelk excels as a senior program officer with the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, which funds and supports comparative clinical effectiveness research. In this capacity, he supports program development and oversees various funded research awards. Additionally, Dr. Woelk is an adjunct associate professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Previously, Dr. Woelk was the director of global implementation research for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. In this capacity, he was the principal investigator for several projects, including "Disruptions in health services delivery in Cote d'Ivoire, South Africa, and Uganda due to infection prevention and control limitations in the context of COVID-19" and "Jamaica Violence Against Children Survey: Retrospective Self Reports from 13-24-Year-Old Females and Males." During the early stages of his career, Dr. Woelk gained valuable expertise in the field as a senior research epidemiologist for RTI International, professor, and department chair at the University of Zimbabwe's Department of Community Medicine, and as the lead in the research and development unit at the Harare City Health Department, where he supported the development of community health services for some of the neediest citizens in the city. Dr. Woelk, an expert in his field, earned a Bachelor of Science in sociology from the University of Zimbabwe.

Subsequently, he expanded his professional knowledge by completing a master's degree in community health from the University of Liverpool and a PhD in epidemiology from the University of Washington. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, he aligns himself with the Global Fellows Network, sponsored by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Dr. Woelk has also devoted himself to the Public Health Association in Zimbabwe, the Takoma Metaphysical Chapel, and more. He is also Associate Editor for the journal Frontiers in Reproductive Health.

In recognition of his professional knowledge, Dr. Woelk has contributed to numerous publications, including "Supporting adolescents living with HIV within boarding schools in Kenya" and "Uptake of and intention to use oral pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV among pregnant and post-natal women in Eswatini: A cross-sectional survey." Along with other industry scholars, his work has been featured in such journals as JLAS, and BMJ Pediatrics. For his considerable achievements, Dr. Woelk received a grant from the WK Kellogg International Leadership Fellowship and an award for an article on factors that are associated with translating research into policy in three Southern African countries.

During his career, Dr. Woelk took the most pride in his tenure as an academic at the University of Zimbabwe, where he introduced new academic courses and developed a master's in biostatistics program. Another standout part of his career was working at the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDs Foundation, where he was involved in a community-based randomized trial in three African countries. The cornerstone of his success lies in the support of his mentors, including a consultant at the W.K Kellogg Foundation who greatly influenced his career path, the opportunities with which he has been presented, and a little bit of luck. In the coming years, Dr. Woelk intends to substantially contribute to the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute.
