SELINSGROVE, PA, April 09, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jan Reichard-Brown has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. Upon earning a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Gettysburg College in 1976, Dr. Reichard-Brown pursued her passion for research, completing a PhD in developmental biology from the University of Cincinnati. Between 1977 and 1982, she worked on her thesis titled "Correlation between embryonic origin of cultured cell lines and their adhesion to components of the extracellular matrix." Subsequently, she pursued postdoctoral studies, researching cell surface isotype switching on B-cells of nude mice at the University of Iowa's School of Medicine.
As a seasoned educator, Dr. Reichard-Brown gained additional expertise in various roles with Susquehanna University. Drawing on her considerable expertise, she excels as an associate professor of health care studies and biology at Susquehanna University, through which she oversees capstone research for senior students, conducts classes and lab sessions, and meets with pre-health students and academic advisers. Due to her vast breadth of knowledge, Dr. Reichard-Brown has contributed to several publications, including "Writing a Personal Statement Gets Personal: Preparing Pre-Health Professions Students for the Process of Writing and Polishing Their Essays" and "Sea Urchin Embryos Exposed to Thalidomide During Early Cleavage Exhibit Abnormal Morphogenesis Later in Development."
Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Reichard-Brown aligns herself with the Northeast Association of Advisors for the Health Professions, the National Association of Advisors of the Health Professions, the American Society for Cell Biology, the Pennsylvania Academy of Science, and the Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention. In addition to her work, Dr. Reichard-Brown has contributed to her community as a volunteer summer swimming coach for 15 years.
Given her outstanding achievements, Dr. Reichard-Brown has been honored many times, earning the Lawrence A. Lemons Distinguished Advising Award, a Building Inclusive Excellence Award from Susquehanna University, and the Buck Hill Award from the Northeast Association of Advisors for the Health Professions. While her career has been filled with highlights, she takes the most pride in teaching undergraduate classes, mentoring senior research and pre-health professions students, and serving as the director of the health care studies minor. The cornerstone of her success lies in the support she received from her colleagues. Looking ahead, Dr. Reichard-Brown intends to retire in December of 2024 and start a new chapter of her life focused on traveling and family.
