Although he earned a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from Ohio State University in 1980 with the intent of working in public relations, Mr. Williamson interned at the Capitol before graduating and discovered a love of politics. For the first six years of his professional career, he served as chief of staff for the Finance Chairman with the Ohio House of Representatives. Following his work in the Ohio House, Mr. Williamson gained valuable experience in legislative affairs while serving in the Governor's Office. While still in Ohio, he was named an Outstanding Ohio Government Official through Legislative Magazine in light of his professional achievements.
He then moved to Washington, DC where he worked as a state lobbyist responsible for Northeastern states with the Smokeless Tobacco Council, where he helped influence legislation and regulatory decisions on behalf of the Council's member companies. Between 1998 and 2022, he served as the voice of the Cigar Association of America, Inc. (CAA) in state capitals and on Capitol Hill protecting the interests of cigar manufacturers with the federal government. While his career has been filled with many achievements, Mr. Williamson takes the most pride in fighting the "No Smoking Ordinance" in New York City and where his efforts earned an exemption for the Cigar Association of America.
From 2011 to 2022, Mr. Williamson served as president and chief executive officer of CAA.
Currently, he continues to leverage his years of experience in city, state, and federal government legislative processes as the chief executive officer of Landmark Strategic Affairs. This lobbying firm offers various services including legislative analysis, political strategy development, and networking with policymakers. Additionally, in steadfast support of his community, Mr. Williamson serves on the Board of the Law Enforcement Assistance Fund in North Palm Beach, FL.
Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, Mr. Williamson credits his success to his hard work and his wife, who has been an endless source of support.
