DECATUR, GA, April 15, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Mary Robinson with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mary Robinson celebrates many years of experience in her profession, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After earning a bachelor's degree from Paine College in 1966 and working as a chemist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for seven years, Mary returned to school earning a master's degree in chemistry at Illinois Institute of Technology. Her master's research focused on protein chemistry, which led to her interest in two-dimensional gel electrophoresis, a technique of interest to CDC for identifying protein biomarkers of disease and toxic exposure. She returned to CDC where she implemented the technique and conducted numerous studies to identify biomarkers of various diseases and exposures by analyzing blood, serum, and urine. Results of studies on urinary biomarkers led to her interest in the renal toxicity of heavy metals which was the focus of her doctoral dissertation. Dr. Robinson made excellent use of her education and experience by developing an IACET-approved education program and facilitating the careers of more than 200 fellows recruited for various projects to enhance the workforce in the Division of Laboratory Sciences.

She has held memberships in the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC), the American Chemical Society (ACS), and the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE). Additionally, Dr. Robinson volunteered with NOBCChE to develop a summer science program funded by the CDC and designed for up to 50 students. The program served students for over 10 years.

In light of her professional achievements, Dr. Robinson earned the prestigious Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. While her career has been filled with highlights, she takes the most pride in her significant work at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. During her tenure with the organization, she worked to standardize clinical methods used to measure various substances in blood including glucose, triglycerides, and other components essential to diagnosing diseases. One of her biggest contributions to the CDC was the development of a reference method for analyzing glucose, which contributed to the development of handheld glucose monitors.

Though hard work and dedication have brought her far in her career, Dr. Robinson credits her success to her steadfast work ethic, her commitment to her profession, and her first elementary school teacher, her maternal aunt, who was an exceptional teacher. Looking ahead, Dr. Robinson intends to enjoy her retirement, spending time with family and continuing work on her family's genealogy. Her father's family history will be completed in the summer of 2024, and her mother's will be finished by the following summer.
