Porter, PhD, has been recognized for her dedication and contributions to the field of forensic and legal psychology with her inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Porter serves as an assistant professor at Marymount University in the college of sciences and humanities within the school of behavioral and social sciences. Since 2022, she has been instrumental in revamping the forensic and legal psychology program alongside her colleagues. Her research interests are deeply rooted in juvenile justice and policy outcomes influenced by middle managers and street-level workers. Dr. Porter is also collaborating on research concerning identity barriers and professional development in academia.

An expert in juvenile justice and professional development for doctoral students, Dr. Porter is praised for her significant influence on the growth of postgraduate candidates, preparing them for successful careers through skill cultivation. She is also recognized for her expertise in organizational theory, decision-making processes, and addressing racial and ethnic disparities.

Prior to pivoting into higher education, Dr. Porter was the director of research and development for Fairfax County Government's Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court from 2015 to 2022 and held the position of research analyst from 2014 to 2015. She also maintained a tenure at George Mason University in various roles, including as a research associate at the Center for Advancing Correctional Excellence from 2013 to 2014 and as a graduate research assistant between 2012 to 2013. Additionally, Dr. Porter served as a teaching assistant on campus between 2010 and 2012. Her earlier career included positions as a senior research associate at the Graduate Management Admission Council from 2008 to 2010 and as a research associate at ICF International between 2006 and 2008.

Besides her professional achievements, Dr. Porter has made significant contributions by volunteering her expertise for internal research efforts at her previous agency. She also dedicates time to coaching her daughter's volleyball team and volunteering with her Girl Scouts of America troop.

Dr. Porter's academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania in 2003, a Master of Arts in forensic and legal psychology from Marymount University in 2005, and a Doctor of Philosophy in criminology, law, and society from George Mason University in 2019. During her studies, she completed an internship at the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs in 2011.

Dr. Porter's professional affiliations reflect her commitment to her field. She serves on the executive board as secretary-treasurer of the juvenile justice and delinquency section of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences and is also a contributing member of Doctoral Student Summit committee. Additionally, she is involved in the organization's minority and women's, law and policy, and victimology sections.

Looking forward to future career goals, Dr. Porter aspires to organize a summer summit for master's students' professional development at Marymount University and is focused on securing tenure through an upcoming review process. She also envisions expanding her independent consulting evaluating programs within the criminal justice system. Dr. Porter attributes much of her success thus far to the extensive professional experience she gained before entering academia, which began with case management for individuals with severe mental illness and research that focused on victimology within the criminal justice system.
