She also maintained a tenure at George Mason University in various roles, including as a research associate at the Center for Advancing Correctional Excellence from 2013 to 2014 and as a graduate research assistant between 2012 to 2013. Additionally, Dr. Porter served as a teaching assistant on campus between 2010 and 2012. Her earlier career included positions as a senior research associate at the Graduate Management Admission Council from 2008 to 2010 and as a research associate at ICF International between 2006 and 2008.
Besides her professional achievements, Dr. Porter has made significant contributions by volunteering her expertise for internal research efforts at her previous agency. She also dedicates time to coaching her daughter's volleyball team and volunteering with her Girl Scouts of America troop.
Dr. Porter's academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania in 2003, a Master of Arts in forensic and legal psychology from Marymount University in 2005, and a Doctor of Philosophy in criminology, law, and society from George Mason University in 2019. During her studies, she completed an internship at the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs in 2011.
Dr. Porter's professional affiliations reflect her commitment to her field. She serves on the executive board as secretary-treasurer of the juvenile justice and delinquency section of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences and is also a contributing member of Doctoral Student Summit committee.
