ST. LOUIS, MO, April 17, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Arpita Bose, Phd, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

In 2021, Dr. Bose was promoted to the rank of associate professor at Washington University in St. Louis after having served the institution since 2014 as an assistant professor. She teaches at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and also excels in administrative roles that include high-level departmental and university-wide committee work. Notably, Dr. Bose leads a team of associates in conducting critical research and executing grant proposals as well as in the delivery of outreach programs designed to engage local high school and middle school students and expose them to advanced scientific research.

Dynamic and diverse experience in the field accompanies Dr. Bose in her current appointment, including work as a teaching fellow with Marine Biological Laboratory in 2008. From 2009 to 2010, she excelled as a research associate with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which subsequently recognized her as a fellow of the Life Sciences Research Foundation in 2010. Dr. Bose has also served as a board member of the Association for Women Faculty and as an associate editor of the American Society for Microbiology since 2021, and in 2022, she was welcomed as a member of the board of trustees by Applied Microbiology International.

Dr. Bose has earned diverse academic accomplishments including a Bachelor of Science in microbiology from Delhi University. She also completed a Master of Technology in biotechnology from All India Institute of Medical Sciences and a Master of Science in microbiology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where she served as a graduate research and teaching assistant. Dr. Bose subsequently pursued a terminal degree in her field and now holds a PhD in microbiology, also from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and she conducted postdoctoral training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and at Harvard University.

Distinct accolades have marked the milestones of Dr. Bose's career thus far. In 2022, she was recognized as the Anant Fellow for Climate Action by Anant National University, and she has been the recipient of numerous grants funded by both private entities and venture capitalists toward bringing her innovative ideas to a broader market. Recently, Dr. Bose and her team were humbled by a nomination for a local Emmy Award for videos they produced about the use of natural microbes to address issues related to plastic and fuel waste.

Dr. Bose is proud to have received recognition for her quality work at every stage of her career, including the Presidential Gold Medal in microbiology. She was also the recipient of a Life Sciences Research Foundation Fellowship from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and she accepted a Packard Foundation Fellowship. Additionally, in 2013, Dr. Bose participated in the L'Oreal for Women in Science Fellowship University, and she was named a research fellow at Harvard University.

Dr. Bose has made meaningful contributions to the scholarly discourse through publications in prestigious journals and books. She was the co-author of the articles "Electron Uptake by Iron-oxidizing Phototrophic Bacteria," published by Nature Communications in 2014, and "Geomicrobiological Linkages Between Short-chain Alkane Consumption and Sulfate Reduction Rates in Seep Sediments" for Frontiers in Microbiology in 2013. She also collaborated on a chapter titled "From Geocycles to Genomes and Back" for the book "Microbial Metal and Metalloid Metabolism: Advances and Applications," an essay compilation edited by John F. Stolz and Ronald S. Oremland and published by ASM Press in 2011. Another select title in Dr. Bose's output is "Differential Regulation of the Three Methanol Methyltransferase Isozymes in Methanosarcina Acetivorans C2A," which the Journal of Bacteriology published in 2006.

Perseverance is a foundational aspect of Dr. Bose's profile and propels her to prevail in the competitive atmosphere faced by scientists in the United States. She is gratified to have earned distinguished awards for her research on microorganisms that produce methane and aims to persist in prioritizing causes that are meaningful to her, particularly those that involve environmental impacts across the globe, which have been revealed to her through extensive travel, particularly in the Caribbean and Puerto Rico. She plans to maintain a role in both the industrial setting and in academia, the latter of which provides the intellectual freedom that is foundational to her research. By promoting the use of biodegradable bioplastics, she will continually collaborate on mitigating the problem of plastic waste infiltrating the oceans, and Dr. Bose endeavors to drive social change by prompting consumers to consider the environmental impact of their actions.
