He also served as the chief editor for LATINCORR in Houston between 2010 and 2011, was a fluids engineer at Petrozuata from 2005 to 2007, and held the position of corrosion specialist at Petrobras between 2000 and 2003. Among other noteworthy industry roles, Dr. Palacios Tenreiro began his career at Petróleos de Venezuela SA, where he was a corrosion specialist from 1990 to 1996. Since 2011 Dr Palacios Tenreiro has been an independent consultant providing his expertise and professional services in North and South America, North Africa, Europe, Middle East, and Far East.
Dr. Palacios Tenreiro's corrosion, asset integrity, and flow assurance expertise have earned him widespread recognition in his profession. He holds a U.S. patent for a downhole chemical injection enhancer device, has published two industry standards within his field, has been actively engaged in writing and reviewing international standards, and has published numerous professional papers. Additionally, Dr. Palacios Tenreiro authored "Corrosion and Asset Integrity Management for Upstream Installations in the Oil/Gas Industry: The Journey of Corrosion/Integrity Engineer - Real Life Experiences" via CreateSpace Independent Publishing in 2016, with an updated version released in 2019. The book has also been published in Spanish.
The foundation of Dr. Palacios Tenreiro's success lies in his academic achievements, which have significantly contributed to his professional accomplishments. He received a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Tulsa in 1983. He subsequently received a Master of Science in mechanical engineering and a Doctor of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tulsa in 1987 and 1990, respectively. Notably, Dr. Palacios Tenreiro was the first doctoral candidate to graduate from the department of mechanical engineering at the University of Tulsa with a doctorate. During his postdoctoral tenure at the same institution, he established its first corrosion engineering course. Dr. Palacios Tenreiro's certifications include National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) chemical treatment specialist and NACE internal corrosion specialist through the National Association of Corrosion Engineers.
Dr. Palacios Tenreiro's professional affiliations include being a NACE fellow of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (now the Association for Materials Protection and Performance). He is also associated with the American Society for Metals, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and the Association for Materials Protection and Performance. Moreover, Dr. Palacios Tenreiro founded the University of Tulsa chapter of the Latin American Student Association.
