Attributing over 45 years of professional success to his career in law, Mr. Taronji rejoined the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in 2006, beginning as an attorney in the Office of the General Counsel and later as an attorney advisor in the Office of Policy Planning. Based in Washington, D.C., the FTC is recognized as a government agency that enforces antitrust and consumer protection laws. In his present role, Mr. Taronji deals with unique issues and studies regarding federal antitrust and consumer protection and provides counsel and advice to the commission staff.

Mr. Taronji began his career with the FTC in 1976 as an attorney in the bureau of competition. He spent over three years in this capacity before returning to the government entity 30 years later. Recognized for his remarkable leadership skills, Mr. Taronji successfully launched the agency-wide diversity council at the FTC. Throughout his career, he was also influential in promoting diversity and inclusion within the legal profession at the federal agency level and with the American Bar Association (ABA). Having garnered experience in the public and private sector, Mr. Taronji was an of counsel for the antitrust practice group at Howrey LLP from 2004 to 2005. He also served as a vice president in the private sector for Dayton Superior, The Americas Region and Teradata Computer Systems Group, NCR Corporation, and the Packaging Corporation of America, a subsidiary of Tenneco Inc. Furthermore, Mr. Taronji was a legal counsel for the vehicular systems group at Dana Corporation and an antitrust counsel for Westinghouse Electric Company.

Before becoming an attorney, Mr. Taronji served his country in the U.S. Army, commissioned as a second lieutenant in military intelligence. During his tenure in the military, he spent one year serving in Vietnam before being sent to a special unit in Panama involved in intelligence operations in Latin America. Mr. Taronji rose through the ranks to become a captain before retiring. He is a former board member of the Corporate Counsel Institute at Georgetown Law.

Mr. Taronji was born in New York, graduated from high school in his parents' native Puerto Rico, and then studied at George Washington University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in political science in 1972 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1976 from the Georgetown University Law Center. While pursuing his law degree, he was a special assistant for the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights from 1972 to 1976. Mr. Taronji was admitted to practice by the District of Columbia Bar Association, of which he is a member.

Remaining affiliated in the legal field, Mr. Taronji is affiliated with the ABA as a member of the leadership of the Antitrust Law Section and the Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the profession. He is also a member of the Hispanic National Bar Association and the mentorship program of the Hispanic Bar Association of the District of Columbia.

Recognizing his achievements, Mr. Taronji received the A. Leon Higginbothan Jr. Award from the FTC in 2010 and 2013. He credits his success to the invaluable leadership and teamwork skills he acquired in the military. He also draws inspiration from his late wife, who worked for the Office of the Congressman from Puerto Rico on Capitol Hill.
