Through Mrs. Smith's efforts, EmPower Martial Arts has become a cornerstone of the community. The studio has earned top three recognition as one of the best downtown businesses by the Livingston County Area Chamber of Commerce and has received the 2022, 2023, and 2024 Best of Geneseo Award. Empower Martial Arts also received The Most Supportive Martial Arts School at numerous tournaments they've attended. Such accolades reflect Mrs. Smith's business acumen and her commitment to supporting and revitalizing martial arts within her community.
As an active community member, Mrs. Smith holds membership with the Livingston County Area Chamber of Commerce. She devotes her time to the Livingston County Office for the Aging, Department of Health, surrounding area school districts, college groups, girl scout troops and various other community-based groups. Furthermore, she is a member of the National Women's Martial Arts Federation, Adaptive Martial Arts Association, and Alliance of Therapy Dogs. Both in the classroom and the studio, Mrs. Smith's education laid the foundation for her success. She holds a Master's degree in reading from the State University of New York College at Geneseo, which she earned in 2001, following the receipt of a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from the same institution in 2000.
Mrs. Smith's academic achievements have undoubtedly contributed to her ability to communicate effectively and foster learning environments that encourage personal development. As a result of her background and professional journey, she is a strong advocate of education—be it in reading, studying, or daily experiences—and believes that education plays an important role in one's life.
