Serving as a professor at Xavier University since 2020, Mr. Gedert imparts knowledge on climate change and sustainability while actively engaging in research. His work includes writing a book on the impact of plastics on climate change, slated for publication by the end of 2024. Prior to his teaching at Xavier University, Mr. Gedert held several key positions that underscored his commitment to environmental stewardship. From 2010 to 2023, he was a board member of the National Recycling Coalition, where he also served as president from 2015 to 2018 and 2020 to 2022. His leadership extended to the National Stewardship Action Council as a board member from 2015 to 2018 and 2020 to 2023. Mr. Gedert's expertise was further recognized through his roles as an affiliate senior consultant with Resource Recycling Systems from 2017 to 2018 and as a steering committee member for SWEEP: The Solid Waste Environmental Excellence Protocol from 2016 to 2018. His direct involvement in municipal waste management was evident during his tenure as director of Austin Resource Recovery (formerly Solid Waste Services) for the City of Austin, Texas, from 2010 to 2017 and as executive director of the California Resource Recovery Association from 2008 to 2010.

Mr. Gedert's journey into recycling began at the University of Cincinnati, where he developed and managed a pioneering recycling program. This initiative laid the foundation for his illustrious career. His academic background includes a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Science in psychology from California State University, Fresno, completed in 2010 and 2007, respectively. Additionally, his early studies in architecture, philosophy and psychology at the University of Cincinnati from 1975 to 1982 played a crucial role in shaping his multidisciplinary approach to environmental issues.

Mr. Gedert's professional affiliations reflect his broad engagement with environmental and civic organizations. He is a member of industry-related groups such as the National Recycling Coalition, the Association of Ohio Recyclers, the National Stewardship Action Council, the Solid Waste Association of North America, and the League of Women Voters. His civic involvement extends to associations with the National Resources Defense Council, the Ohio Environmental Council, the Arbor Day Foundation, the Environmental Defense Fund, the Brennan Center for Justice, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati, Interfaith Power and Light, the Cincinnati Solid Waste Caucas, and the Xavier University Student Sustainability Club.

Among Mr. Gedert's accolades are the Indiana Greening of the Government Award, received in 1999, and a Lifetime Achievement Award in recycling from the National Recycling Coalition, received in 2019. The latter honor recognizes his 45 years of dedication to recycling across the nation. Mr. Gedert has become an eloquent speaker on sustainability issues, having spoken at approximately 400 conferences on sustainability, recycling and climate change.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, Mr. Gedert's personal life is characterized by a commitment to environmental advocacy beyond his professional endeavors. In the coming years, he aims to intensify his efforts against plastic pollution by focusing on reducing plastic production and eliminating plastic waste. Through these endeavors, Mr. Gedert continues to contribute significantly to environmental conservation and sustainability education.
