OBGYN.net launches focused initiative on PMS/PMDD after overwhelming response from members seeking more information on this common condition.

OBGYN.net helps connect millions of doctors, allied healthcare providers, and women to learn about or find better health care.

/24-7PressRelease/ - NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ, June 16, 2008 - Estimates of the percentage of women affected by PMS vary widely. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, at least 85 percent of menstruating women have at least one PMS symptom as part of their monthly cycle. Most of these women have symptoms that are fairly mild and do not need treatment. Some women (about three to eight percent of menstruating women) have a more severe form of PMS, called Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD).

Roberta Speyer, President OBGYN.net:
"The regularity with which our Women' s Health Forum gets inundated with questions about PMS and PMDD has warranted the launch of a special healthcare 2.0 OBGYN.net PMS/PMDD Resource Center. The PMS/PMDD Resource Center, modeled after the highly successful Hysterectomy Resource Center, will promote our blog and expert opinion discussion forum directly dealing with these often misunderstood and misdiagnosed conditions."

Speyer notes, "This opportunity to educate the millions of doctors, allied healthcare providers, and women that access www.OBGYN.net every month to seek better health care is a front we have been on the forefront of for the past twelve years. I'm very proud that OBGYN.net will be stepping up efforts to help make that happen in the area of PMS and PMDD. Our Editorial Advisory Board of 540 global key opinion leaders concur that this as a condition that often masks itself as other problems. Therefore it often is overlooked and goes undiagnosed and untreated. PMS and PMDD can have very serious quality of life implications for those suffering from it and their families. This is not a lightweight issue by any stretch of the imagination though it has often been downplayed in the past. We intend to change that perception utilizing our international position as the world's largest women's health portal"

OBGYN.net has recruited over 500 women suffering from symptoms to participate in a dialog with medical professionals that will shed new light on womens' ability to find adequate diagnosis and treatment for their condition. Results will be published and presented in 2009 at the OB/GYN New and Emerging Therapeutics Summit.

Features of the PMS/PMDD Resource Center will include real time Q&A with experts, support blogs for sufferers, a symptoms diary that can be shared with the treating physician much like the pain diary we use for the www.EndometriosisZONE.org and quantitative as well as qualitative results gleaned from the interactive dialog between women and physicians participating in the initiative.

OBGYN.net is the largest destination web portal devoted entirely to women s health, obstetrics, gynecology, infertility and is wholly owned and operated by Medispecialty inc.
