LONDON, ENGLAND, July 19, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sainsbury's Travel Insurance offers comprehensive cover at competitive premiums.

Britons plan to take a total of 56 million holidays this summer, according to new research from Sainsbury's Travel Insurance, and will spend around GBP43.86 billion on them. More than one in three people (36%) intending to go on holiday plan to take a trip to the Eurozone, despite the current poor value of sterling against the Euro. The findings reveal that around 670,000 people intend to take more holidays than usual specifically to escape 'recession depression'.
An estimated 16.4 million people are intending to take more than one break this summer. On average Britons spend approximately GBP784 per person on each holiday, including all costs for travel, accommodation, food and entertainment.

The UK is the most popular intended destination, with 63% of all people intending to go on a break this summer planning at least one trip here. This is followed by the Eurozone, where 36% of holidaymakers intend to take a trip. Only 23% of people planning to go away this summer intend to take a foreign holiday outside the Eurozone.
Sam Marrs, Sainsbury's Travel Insurance Manager, said: "Despite tough economic conditions, it would appear that rather than sacrificing our holidays, we Britons may even be taking more breaks in a bid to put all the credit-crunch doom and gloom behind us.

"The millions of people who are going on holiday more than once this summer would be well-advised to buy a multi-trip travel insurance policy before they go away, as they can make significant savings by doing so rather than buying single trip policies."

Notes to Editors
(1) The consumer omnibus research of 2038 GB adults aged 18 or over was carried out online by ICM between 19th and 21st June 2009. ICM uses a large sample size that reflects the demographic profile of GB. Given this it is possible to extrapolate figures and make projections from the research results within appropriate confidence intervals. So 5% of the GB adult population of 45.89 million is 2.3m. Figures are estimates.
(2) Figures are estimates based on what consumers say they spent on their last holiday, as part of the consumer omnibus research in footnote 1.
