Book on Perimenopause and Natural Hormones Awarded Top Publishing Honors

Larkfield Publishing's "The Hormone Survival Guide for Perimenopause" wins the prestigious Ben Franklin Award for best first book by a new publisher. The book also receives an Honorable Mention in ForeWord Magazine's Book of the Year competition.

/24-7PressRelease/ - Santa Rosa, CA, June 19, 2005 -- On the eve of the recent Book Expo America, the largest book publishing event in the U.S., panel of book industry experts recognized the achievements of a small publisher by awarding the Bill Fisher Award for Best First Book by a New Publisher (nonfiction) to Larkfield Publishing for "The Hormone Survival Guide for Perimenopause" ($14.95, May 2004).

The announcement was made at the climax of the Benjamin Franklin Awards gala sponsored annually by PMA, the independent book publishers association, to honor excellence in independent publishing.

Publishers large and small from all across North America competed for the coveted awards, named in honor of America's most cherished publisher and printer. Grouped by genre, books were judged on editorial and design merit by top practitioners in each field. A panel of more than 150 judges from throughout the publishing industry weighed and evaluated more than 1,600 submissions in 52 categories to create the list of more than 160 finalists for the 2004 publishing year.

Gary Palmatier, owner and founder of Larkfield Publishing, was unable to accept in person but heard about the award immediately from colleagues in New York. "Through all the challenges of publishing our first title, we always aimed for the highest quality in content, design, and production," he stated. "As the new kid on the block, I'm very gratified to be so honored by these revered publishing professionals."

He got more good news two days later, when the Book of the Year Awards were announced by ForeWord Magazine in New York City. Competing against more than 1,500 entries and 500 finalists, "The Hormone Survival Guide for Perimenopause" received an Honorable Mention in the Health category.

Even before its May 2004 publication date, the award-winning book was favorably reviewed by Publishers Weekly and accepted for distribution by the Independent Publishers Group - both accomplishments that are nearly unheard of for first-time publishers.

The publisher states that "The Hormone Survival Guide for Perimenopause" is a practical handbook for women seeking answers to health, mood, and weight problems caused by hormonal changes during perimenopause (the years leading up to menopause).
