7 Sure-Fire Ways to Intensify Public Speaking Fear
Common Mistakes People Make When Preparing and Delivering a Presentation

MARIETTA, GA, July 03, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- When faced with the daunting thought of giving a speech, people often opt out or end up giving a poor presentation due to their fear of public speaking. This stage fright can cost them their self-esteem, a promotion or, in worst case, their job or business. There are 7 common mistakes speakers make that cause their public speaking anxiety and nervousness to go through the roof:

Mistake #1 - Failing to prepare well in advance - poor preparation and insufficient practicing will only cause anxiety in most speakers.

Mistake #2 - Not structuring the speech properly - a presentation lacking a clear structure and smooth transitions will not only be difficult to remember, but will also cause the listeners to get lost and lose interest.

Mistake #3 - Using a boring opening and conclusion - when the audience doesn't feel an instant connection with the speaker, they probably won't be listening all that well. And if the conclusion is dull, they may forget the speech altogether.

Mistake #4 - Making the speech entirely too serious - if there's no levity in it, the speaker will be nervous before, during and after the presentation.

Mistake #5 - Not having valuable and memorable content - a speech lacking good content will be not only uncomfortable for the speaker to present, but also a waste of time for the listeners.

Mistake #6 - Being unfamiliar with the audience - if the speaker hasn't taken the time to get to know any of the audience members, it will be like talking to a room full of strangers. Also, the audience will have a higher expectation of a speaker they don't know.

Mistake #7 - Fighting the anxiety - the harder the fight, the more intense the anxiety. Negative self-talk will only exacerbate the fear of public speaking.
