79-Year-Old Patient's Back Pain is Gone After Successful Minimally Invasive Surgery Procedure

Port Orchard, WA resident finally gets permanent relief after enduring decade-long back pain.

"We are very happy with Dr. Kamson", Jan's wife tells us. "Dr. Kamson is so gentle for the kind of surgery he does"

BOTHELL, WA, January 23, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jan Oosterveld had been putting up with persistent back pain for the past 10 years. The 79-year-old was struggling with severe back pain that was gradually getting worse as the years went by. Treatment provided by Jan's former doctors consisted only of prescribing pain killers that only treated the symptoms and not the underlying cause of his pain. Jan's long search for a permanent solution finally led him to seek treatment at Spine Institute Northwest.

"I could not sit in a chair any longer than half an hour to one hour," Jan explains. "Sometimes it got so bad that I could not walk. There were times when I was in bed and I could not get out of the bed," Jan explains.

Jan's wife recalls what happened after they decided to go the minimally invasive route to treat her husband's back pain. "Dr. Kamson met my husband and examined him. Doctor Kamson could see the curve on his back and the posture was not erect. Dr. Kamson looked at the MRI and he could tell exactly where the problem was - at three levels in the spinal column," explains Mrs. Oosterveld.

Doctor Kamson then explained to the couple exactly what was troubling Jan (the problem turned out to be spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal canal) and what treatment options were available to them. After examining the MRI, Dr. Kamson recommended a lumbar decompression with a cage implant and facet fixation to treat Jan's back pain. Doctor Kamson used state-of-the-art tools to target and take out the part of the bulging disc that was causing pressure on Jan's spinal nerves and causing his pain.

"After the operation here, we were brought to the hotel and the next day we drove back to Port Orchard," Jan remembers. Travelling by car and sitting for some 2 hours would have been impossible before Jan's procedure. "That's how great the surgery is," Jan's wife states.

Operated on in March 2016, today, all of Jan's pain is gone. "He is doing beautifully," his wife says.

"I cannot lift 40 or 50 kilos...," Jan states. "But he can do the normal work," Jan's wife interjects.

"Today, after nine and a half months, he's having no pain, no nothing, and he's grown taller while I've grown shorter," she says with a wide grin on her face.

The Oostervelds also have nothing but praise for the postoperative care they received from Doctor Kamson and the team at Spine Institute Northwest. "He calmly explains and takes the time to explain to you what's going to happen." "Particularly, the follow up is tremendously good. Every month I come here and see my x-ray, I get an explanation - what has healed, what has not," Jan continues.

"It's really a great experience here," Jan's wife says. "For every little thing that happens to me, I will come only to Spine Institute Northwest," she continues.

"We are very happy with Dr. Kamson," Jan's wife tells us. "Dr. Kamson is so gentle for the kind of surgery he does," she continues. "I tell the neighbors, whenever they ask, where to go if they have back pain."
