ACME Bowling Billiards and Events to Host 2009 Washington State High School Varsity Bowling Championships from February 21-22

Top high school boys and girls varsity bowlers will compete in the 45th Annual Washington State High School Varsity Bowling Championships from Saturday, February 21, through Sunday, February 22, 2009, at ACME Bowl, located across from Westfield Southcenter Shopping Mall at 100 Andover Park West.



    SEATTLE, WA, January 21, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Forty teams featuring Washington's top high school bowlers will roll into ACME Bowl for the 45th Annual Washington State High School Varsity Bowling Championships from Saturday, February 21, through Sunday, February 22. ACME Bowling Billiards and Events is located across from Southcenter at 100 Andover Park West. Admission to the tournament is free.

"Because of the quality and size of the facility, first class hospitality and central Puget Sound location, ACME Bowl is the ideal venue for the Championships," commented Greg Olsen, tournament director and executive director of the Washington State Bowling Proprietors Association, which manages the tournament. Olsen expects more than 700 people to attend the Championships.

"We are thrilled to host this premier event," said Gary Larson, ACME Bowl General Manager. "With more than 200 Washington high schools having varsity boys or girls programs, bowling is the fastest growing high school sport."

Larson also announced that KJR-AM in Seattle has agreed to be the official media partner for the 2009 Championships.

Thirty-four varsity boys' teams in three divisions and six varsity girls' team will compete in the tournament. Teams qualify for the State Championships on their order of finish in regional leagues held between November 1, 2008, and January 31, 2009. Olsen said 45 Washington bowling centers host high school league games.

The final list of teams will be available in February.

Each team can have up to eight members, with five members competing in the tournament. Teams will bowl five matches on Saturday. Teams return on Sunday morning to bowl five, five game Baker matches with total points won over the two days determining the Champions. The award's ceremony will take place at approximately 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The 2008 Boys Varsity Champions were R.A Long High School in Longview, Division I; Edmonds-Woodway High School, Division II; and, Renton High School, Division III. Eastmont High School in East Wenatchee was the 2008 Washington State Girls Varsity Champion.
