/24-7PressRelease/ - CLEARWATER, FL, May 06, 2007 -- "Keeping the environment clean" was the theme of PostcardMania's crusade to beautify its city on Thursday. PostcardMania employees, in conjunction with the City of Clearwater and Keep Pinellas County Beautiful program, participated in their quarterly clean-up project picking up an estimated 222 pounds of trash from the sidewalks and businesses along MLK Jr. Ave. (in the designated Brownfield area where their corporate headquarters are located). They have been contracted with the City of Clearwater on this project for the past eight years.
Over these past eight years there have been nearly a total of 1500 pounds of trash that have been picked up. "This is a huge help to the City in helping keep the environment clean," said Joy Gendusa, Founder and CEO of PostcardMania.
The PostcardMania employees volunteered to come to work 30 minutes early so they could participate in the community activity. While groups of the employees spent their ½ hour picking up bigger pieces of trash, other small groups painstakingly picked up the gobs of cigarette butts that bespeckled the sidewalks. "I don't know why they don't make cigarette butts with biodegradable material," said PostcardMania's Results Manager, Nick Lorden.
The program is applauded by the City Officials. The Road & Drainage Manager's gratitude to PostcardMania was stated in a letter, "thank you for your willingness to be a participant in our Adopt-A-Street program. We appreciate citizens involved in our City to make it a better place to live."
Even though picking up trash can be a dirty activity, the employee volunteers said that it is a rewarding feeling to know they are doing something good for their community.
