Now Rad Inks has announced the release of a file manager with the functionality and appearance of a FTP client but without the short comings of the File Transfer Protocol.
The Rad File Manager is a web application that bridges the gap between FTP and web based file management systems. Unlike the File Transfer Protocol, all commands and data communication between the client and the server can protected by SAL. However the commands themselves appear similar to the commands of the File Transfer Protocol, thus the file manager combines the best of both the hyper text transfer protocol (HTTP) and the File Transfer Protocol.
CRM systems, image galleries, studio web sites need to handle hundreds of thousands of files uploaded by thousands of different users. Information about each file needs to be stored in a database for further processing. The nature of the File Transfer Protocol and the difficulty in sharing session data between FTP and web servers makes FTP impractical for use in many web applications. The Rad File Manager being a web application itself can be integrated easily with other web applications.
The Rad File Manager can upload and download gigabytes of through an HTTP connection and create a records for each file in a database, where it can be readily accessed by other applications or components. Being an HTTP client, Rad File Manager is more likely to work behind corporate firewalls than an FTP or SFTP client.
