CHICAGO, IL, October 22, 2008
/24-7PressRelease/ -- As a breast cancer survivor, Dr. Sandy Goldberg understands the need for immediate and thorough care. Goldberg, founder of A Silver Lining Foundation (ASLF), which provides no cost screening mammograms and other breast cancer resources to uninsured and underinsured women, will host the ASLF and Banco Popular 3rd Annual Health Fair on October 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Roberto Clemente High School, 1147 N. Western Avenue in Chicago.
Held in the heart of Humboldt Park, the health fair will pre-qualify uninsured and underinsured women for no cost screening mammograms, and also provide no cost health screenings, educational information and outreach services, breakout sessions, and a "day spa" featuring complimentary manicures, chair massages, haircuts and skin care demonstrations. All services and educational brochures are offered in both Spanish and English. Area residents and families are encouraged to attend the fair to benefit from these services.
The Roberto Clemente High School ROTC Drill team will perform and members of the Chicago Fire Department's Fitness Team will guide health fair attendees through a fun workout and exhibit.
"This will be a unique opportunity for people in the community to benefit from these important outreach services, as well as enjoying the talents of their friends and neighbors," said Goldberg. "ASLF is honored to work alongside Banco Popular to present this health fair."
Since A Silver Lining Foundation was launched in 2002 as a 501(c)3 charitable organization by Dr. Sandy Goldberg, the organization has provided more than 400,000 people with information about cancer resources, treatment options and support services. Through the organization's programs, services and personal support, the foundation strives to provide access to cancer related information and testing to medically underserved people in a warm and attentive manner. The organization strives to perpetuate the philosophy of Dr. Goldberg's late mother: "We are all family and we have to help each other through the tough times. There is, for everyone, a silver lining."
ASLF's Chicagoland Cancer Information Coalition is comprised of several major cancer advocacy organizations that provide information and education about cancer prevention, resource availability and treatment options. BUY MOM A MAMMOGRAM provides access to and funds mammograms for women who cannot afford them. Since the program's inception in 2006, more than 1,000 women have received information about and access to screening mammograms in a timely and respectful fashion. Funding of follow-up diagnostic testing was added in April 2007.
The 3rd Annual Health Fair will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 25 at Roberto Clemente High School, 1147 N. Western Avenue in Chicago. No charge for attendance.
