AYLESBURY, UK, November 30, 2008
/24-7PressRelease/ -- ESRI (UK), the market leader in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) solutions, has won a 140,000 contract to supply GIS software to Aberdeen City Council, the ultimate aim of which is to give its citizens quick and easy access to information on local services and activities.
In addition to ESRI's world-leading ArcGIS product, LocalView, a browser-based knowledge-sharing application, will assist the Council in managing and disseminating land and property information across the Council and to the public.
The system enables the provision of a single point of access to the most up-to-date online community and local environment information. The service covers geographic information on local services, amenities and properties, and is made possible through integrating with existing council datasets and mapping capabilities. The GIS solution also includes the Corporate Address Gazetteer, part of the National Gazetteer for Scotland, giving the Council's staff and public sector partners a single source from which to store and manage address data.
Iain Paterson, Corporate GIS Administrator, said: "We have had GIS at Aberdeen City Council for more than ten years but LocalView and the Corporate Address Gazetteer will enable us to make GIS an enterprise resource, sharing location-based information easily, such as school catchment areas and current roadworks, with staff and members of the public. The entire project will form an integral part of service delivery and better decision-making."
Richard Waite, Managing Director, ESRI (UK) Ltd said: "We are pleased to start this new relationship with Aberdeen City Council by supporting their online public services. More than ever, there is an expectation that council services deliver the same personalisation, choice, speed and access to information that local residents have become accustomed to in other areas - this new one-stop shop will give the people of Aberdeen just that."
ESRI (UK) (http://www.esriuk.com) was one of a number of vendors that took part in the competitive tender, and was chosen because of its reputation among other Councils, the breadth and depth of the products and services, the scalability of the solution and the ability to integrate GIS with existing systems.
The purchase has been funded by the Scottish Government's Modernising Government Fund and is due to go live in spring 2009.
