NAPLES, FL, September 25, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- ADS Florida presented "Best Practices in Bear Markets: Enhancing Practice Value in Economic Downtimes," a seminar for dental practitioners, at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota on September 19, 2008. The seminar will be offered again at the Embassy Suites Jacksonville on November 7, 2008.

The "Best Practices" seminar focuses on helping dentists to develop and maintain a stronger, more profitable practice, despite the current state of the economy. Attendees were presented with practical information and innovative, implementable strategies for improving their practice. Lecture topics included: Building equity and value for your practice; Increasing your income until retirement; and Preparing for a highly profitable transition by establishing a successful exit strategy.

Tax issues related to dental practice transitions and recent changes to IRS auditing practices were topics of great interest to seminar attendees.

Information on Internet marketing and new strategies for increasing the patient base by attracting the most desirable patients were presented by Lawrence E. Fendrich, DMD. He also addressed using the Internet to improve communications with current patients.

Steve Blechman, DMD, delivered novel approaches to case presentation. Blechman's strengths include analyzing the marketplace and motivating staff to be partners and leaders in case acceptance.

Hy Smith, MBA, ADS Florida's founder and a seminar presenter, says that current economic conditions are causing some owners of dental practices to postpone selling their practice. He notes that one result is a buildup of buyers for solid, well located practices in Florida. Author of "Buying and Selling a Professional Practice," Smith believes that "It's a good time to be prepared to sell, even if it's not for another year or so." Noting the possibility that a post-election increase in the capital gains tax rate could increase the seller's tax burden, Smith says, "The unknowns of an administration change and the impact on capital gains tax makes it an appealing time to retire in Florida."
