As the owner of Affinity Properties and an active realtor throughout the city and surrounding areas, Joe Cline is aware of the difficulties many families face in obtaining adequate housing. He knows that without proper funding, proper accommodations cannot be sought. He also knows that given the current state of the economy obtaining that funding is no easy task. Therefore, he has sought to give back to the community and increase the possibility that more families throughout the Austin area can meet the basic need for shelter by contributing to Habitat Young Professionals.
Habitat Young Professionals is a branch of Austin's Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity operates nationally providing homes for at-need families through the donated time, talents and resources of volunteers. In Austin, the group builds simple, affordable homes, relying on local partner families to offer opportunities for education, skill development and mentoring so as to break the cycle of poverty housing and create successful homeowners.
As a sect of Habitat for Humanity, Habitat Young Professionals offers the same services but through the time and energy of Austin's youngest working generation. These young professionals meet regularly, combining their talents and resources to give back to the community that is now enabling them to build a bright future. To date, the group has fundraised more than $60,000 in 2008. Much more is expected before the close of the year.
There are also many activities to come. Already in October, the group held a housing dedication, as well as a Habitat Young Professionals Leadership Chair Meeting. On the 20th there will be a volunteer meeting and on the 21st a happy hour. Similar events continue throughout November and December, including an Orientation Habitour, where new volunteers are taken through Austin and explained what Habitat Young Professionals does, and a ReStore Volunteer Day, a first come first serve volunteer day during which 25 to 30 volunteers help out Habitat in the Restore. In May, Habitat Young Professionals will hold its 3rd annual fundraising gala open to all volunteers as a fundraiser for the organization.
It is this great and inspirational group that Joe Cline, as a young professional himself, chooses to contribute to, for it is a reflection of his own desire to serve.
