BRISTOL, UK, March 29, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Next Top Model franchise continues to spread around the globe with the announcement that 2009 will see the debut of Africa's Next Top Model.

Auditions are being held very soon and entrants who dream of (http://www.modelsdirect.com/locations/worldwide.html) becoming a model are expected from many countries, from Nigeria to South Africa, and from Ivory Coast to Mozambique.

The series will be presented by Tyra Banks and Tom Kelly, and the winner will receive a cash prize, a modelling contract with Tyra Banks' Modelling Agency, and a six-month contract as the face of Louis Vuitton. It will be an incredible start to a successful modelling career for the lucky winner.

The launch of the series has been widely hailed as a sign that attitudes in the modelling industry have well and truly moved away from the old days when top level modelling was dominated by Caucasian models and very few African women were seen on catwalks and in magazine fashion spreads.

"The idea of Africa's Next Top Model is really exciting," says Damian O'Connor, Managing Director of nationwide modelling agency (http://www.modelsdirect.com) Models Direct.

"It's long overdue. We've been seeing a rise in demand for models of all ethnicities, where once the majority of demand was for Europeans. I have no doubt that this series will be a real inspiration to anyone out there who is thinking of becoming a model one day."

O'Connor says that demand from clients and advertisers looking for models of African descent has increased notably in the last decade or so. This reflects the fact that the world's population is become far more multicultural, and increasingly advertisers want to reflect the real world in their images and photography.

"People's ideas of beauty are much more open that they used to be," says O'Connor. "Tyra Banks has created a really brilliant initiative with this show."
