DALLAS, TX, September 29, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Aggie Energy today announced the winner of its online photo contest, calling upon the Aggie faithful to capture the "Power of the Aggie Spirit." More than 450 votes were tallied for the 60 photos entered into the contest. "Daddy's Helmet" submitted by Megan Matzig of College Station, Texas is the grand prize winning photo, as voted by Aggie fans, capturing infant twins resting peacefully inside a Texas A&M football helmet.

"This is a photo of my 7 week old niece and nephew in my brother-in-law's helmet who played for the Aggies from 1988 to 1991," said Megan Matzig. "These two are destined to continue the Aggie pride and tradition we have in our family. We're honored to have been chosen as the winner by fellow Aggie fans and look forward to rooting on our team!"

As the grand prize winner, Matzig will receive the Aggie Power Pack, including tickets to a home football game, men's and women's basketball home games and merchandise autographed by head football coach Mike Sherman. The following runners-up will also receive tickets to a home football game:
• "Wear Your Colors" - submitted by Cecilia Wagner of College Station, Texas
• "Fourth Generation Aggie" - submitted by Tara Burkholder of College Station, Texas
• "My Lil' Aggies!" - submitted by Melissa Rich of North Richland Hills, Texas

All photos can be viewed by visiting http://www.AggieEnergy.com.

"The photos submitted show that the 12th Man, a long-standing and proud tradition here at Texas A&M, is still one of the most powerful in the nation," said Texas A&M director of athletics Bill Byrne. "Nothing is more energizing to our student athletes than support and devotion they see and hear from the University's fans, former and current students."

From September 3 - 6, Texas A&M former students, fans and current students were asked to submit photos which now appear as pins on an interactive map, showcasing the power of the Aggie spirit throughout the state of Texas and the nation. Aggie fans were then invited to vote for the most powerful photo from September 7 - 11.

Texas A&M is the nation's seventh-largest university with over 49,000 students and boasts one of the nation's most passionate fan bases with 350,000 former students around the world. The photo contest, part of Texas A&M's participation in national College Colors Day, marked the launch of Aggie Energy.

"Aggie Energy was created to provide loyal Texas A&M fans an opportunity to show their support for the University while making a smart electricity choice for the environment," said Jason Helms, President and CEO of Branded Retail Energy. "Texas A&M's former students are some of the most progressive and most socially-networked in the nation, making this online photo contest the perfect launching pad for this innovative energy product."
