LONDON, ENGLAND, October 09, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Aguettant is one company that has invested a great deal of money for testing to improve on the pre-filled syringe design. They have developed and launched a new polypropylene syringe that will improve safety and quality of care while keeping costs level. Standard empty plastic syringes of cyclo-olefin polymer or cyclo-olefin co-polymer as well as those made from glass, are available in the industry in ready-to-fill format. They are manufactured and arranged in nests, pre-siliconised and pre-sterilized. While the nesting process offers more flexibility for development or multiple format productions regardless of the volumes produced, the issue of cost is still the inhibiting factor with the use for most inexpensive emergency and critical drugs.

With these considerations in mind, Aguettant spent five years of product and industrial development at a significant cost to design a new polypropylene pre-filled syringe that was safer and provided a better quality of care at an acceptable cost. The pre-filled syringe is produced in bulk and is terminally sterilized with steam in a peelable blister pack. The result is a pre-filled syringe that is patented for its simple and secure opening system as well as for the improvement of the stopper sterilization efficiency.A frangible obturator seals the syringe and is injection molded in one embodiment with the barrel of the syringe. A protective cap covers the obturator. Simply rotating the cap breaks the obturator and the tip of the syringe opens. Once the protective cap is removed, the Luer Lock male connector allows you to make a secured connection with nearly any female port for needle-free administration or reconstitution.

All the above aspects of pre-filled syringes will be discussed at inaugural Pharma IQ event, Pre-Filled Syringes and Injectable Technologies taking place 07 - 09 March, 2011 in London. Covered topics will include applying QbD to the formulation and package design, Identifying the most suitable delivery method to enhance product take up and Challenges and solutions of gaining first time regulatory approval.
