Air Charter Flight Company Peachtree Aviation Shares How to Determine Whether the Weather Is Safe Enough to Fly

Experienced pilots encounter few situations where the weather is too unsafe to fly in, but these can include thunderstorms, snow storms and high crosswinds.

ATLANTA, GA, January 17, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Weather is one of the main risk factors for a plane and many pilots will delay their flight schedule to avoid a potential weather hazard. Experienced pilots can and do fly in all kinds of weather, but Peachtree Aviation knows that some weather patterns are more dangerous for airplanes than others.

Three Difficult Weather Conditions

Thunderstorms present one of the biggest risks to air travel, specifically in the form of lightning, turbulence, hail and downdrafts. Fortunately, thunderstorms are never a surprise for pilots, but it is still best for them to avoid storm cells or not fly when a storm cell is present. If your private jet charter in Atlanta is a plane that is able to fly over the thunderstorm, your pilot may choose to continue course. If they cannot go around or climb above the thunderhead, they may choose to go through a weak spot.

Snow and ice before takeoff can add excessive weight to the aircraft, which can change the shape of the aircraft's aerodynamic lifting surfaces. Typically, air will flow over the smooth surfaces of the wings, fuselage and tail to create lift, but when these surfaces have snow or ice on them, that airflow is disrupted.

"Your air charter in Atlanta can still fly in cases of snow and ice, but the plane will need to be de-iced before you can take off," says James Barber, CEO of Peachtree Aviation. "This process sometimes takes several applications and several hours, but it'll get you up in the air."

Excessively high crosswinds can also create a dangerous situation for your Atlanta air charter. Each plane has their ability to withstand crosswinds tested extensively and most find their limit at between 40 and 45 knots. If winds are that strong, it can make it difficult to impossible for a pilot to land the aircraft safely. Typically, they will find another runway with lower crosswind speeds.
