The breakthrough, patented system overcomes traditional microbial expression difficulties by secreting correctly folded, active proteins directly into the growth media. This advanced technology is Ajinomoto's answer to a recent analysis of biotechnology manufacturing by BioPlan Associates, a biotechnology marketing research firm in Rockville, Maryland. In the January 2009 study entitled "Genetic Expression Systems: Current and Future Manufacturing Platforms," the firm outlines the need for advances in manufacturing. The study describes a "reluctance" by companies to modernize with new technology and methodologies so products can be made "more efficiently and to higher clinical standards."
