LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, September 25, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Alan J. Whitaker, Chair of The Billion Child Appeal, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in education.

The epidemic of poor education is leaving hundreds of millions of young people ignorant, uneducated and largely unemployable in the twenty-first century - the main reasons for poverty, food and nutrition insecurity, malnutrition, a high crime rate and growing social unrest as people demand to be employed.
Every country has over the past decade seen the emergence of two parallel societies - skilled and educated people with jobs, and uneducated, unskilled people with little hope of ever gaining permanent employment.

We cannot easily change the past but we can change the future.

The Billion Child Appeal is a non-profit which has only one objective - to enable a billion children around the world to receive quality parenting and education over the next generation: this with the ultimate goal of providing them with an economically viable and resilient future.

Mr. Whitaker says, "No parent sends their child to school to fail. Yet not a single country has been able to solve the problem of poor social mobility and this is directly attributable to poor parenting and broken education systems. In most countries only one child out of 100 born into poverty who attends underperforming schools will graduate from high school qualified to attend tertiary education, take up an apprenticeship or enter meaningful in company training programmes.

For this reason, The Billion Child Appeal conducts national parent training programmes and turns around underperforming schools. In 2014 its national parenting skills training programmes will be attended by the parents of 3.3 million children and they will turn around 2,230 schools in Africa. Each year they double the number of schools they assist.

The Billion Child Appeal is supported by Emeritus Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
