-- Healthy snacks are the latest craze taking over the country. That's why Alga Snak has kicked off an innovative social media sales campaign to bring its seaweed and whole wheat flour crispy snack to market.
"We are working on bringing our healthy Alga Snak product to market using online social media," said Arturo Jimenez, founder of Alga Snak. "Not only is it healthy, but it is also great tasting and is jammed packed with nutrients."
A healthier alternative to chips, Alga Snak is made from brown seaweeds and whole wheat flour. The snack is full of many of the healthy benefits from seaweed including phytochemicals, antioxidants, minerals, amino acids, lipids, micronutrients, enzymes, plant sterols, glycogens, flavonoids, polyphenols, organic iodine and other important compounds not found in land plants.
Alga Snak is using a social media sales campaign to bring the product to market. By pre-selling the product, they hope to raise enough funds to expand operations and distribution.
For a donation as little as $25, Alga Snak will send you one pound of the snacks; a logo sticker, a Facebook thank you and shipping of the items to your home. Increase the donation $25 and receive three more pounds of Alga Snak and a logo tote bag.
"Not only do you get some great tasting healthy snacks, but when you donate you also become part of the Alga Snak family," Jimenez said. "We definitely want to provide special deals to those that helped us bring this great tasting product to markets all over the United States."
Alga Snak is sold in low density pellets and to make it into a chip, simply drop it into a little bit of healthy olive oil and it puffs up into a crunchy snack.
"It picks up some of the healthy benefits of olive oil in the cooking process," Jimenez said. "Plus in the pellet form it can be stored constantly fresh without getting stale."
The pellets last up to three years and the brown seaweeds is sustainably harvested in protected fields in Baja California, Mexico. Alga Snak is also using the product to help low income families in Mexico and to fight childhood obesity here in the States.
"Not only is the product great to eat but it also helps promotes economic and environmental sustainability," Jimenez said. "So you can enjoy them knowing you are doing your body and the planet good."
