LOS ANGELES, CA, January 21, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- All the Way West Productions, Inc presents the stage play "Southern Girls" opening Thursday January 22, 2009 at The Complex inside the Ruby Theater located at 6476 Santa Monica Blvd, Hollywood, CA 90038 starting at 8pm.

Southern Girls shadows the experience of six childhood friends from the 1950s to their middle ages set in a small town outside of Birmingham, Alabama. Biracial dreamer Wanda-Sue, teeters between the world of her white half-sister, Charlotte, her white friends, Dolly and June-Adele, and her black friends, sisters Ruth and Naomi. As children the girls play together but as the years pass by their world changes when each woman's dreams are strongly influenced and affected by the turbulent times in which they live.

"Southern Girls is so far ranging because the play is about so many things says Director Dan Martin. On the surface, it's about 6 very different women, who all originate in the same time and place, and about their various reactions to the times in which they find themselves. But in addition to these women, it's also about their times, it's about the effect the time and place has on them. It's about family and family ties. It's about individual choices. It's about America, and it's about that peculiar region of America called the South with its peculiar social institutions, and the changes it has gone and continues to go though. "

Written by playwrights Sheri Bailey & Dura Temple and directed by NAACP Image Award Nominee Dan Martin., Southern Girls brings together a diverse cast starring Danye E. Brown, Rebecca Royale, Megan Blakeley, Kathryn Scott, Shaun Adams and Jessica Webb. "I've enjoyed hanging out with these Southern Girls, the actresses and the characters. I've learned a bit, and I suspect you will too", says Martin.

Southern Girls runs nightly each Thursday, Friday, Saturday evening with matinees on Sundays until March 1, 2009. General admission is $20.00 for all performances. Group rates and student discounts are also available. To reserve tickets, please call (323) 960-7822 or purchase tickets online: http://www.plays411.net.
