Allergist and Immunologist Dr. Vicki Lyons Emphasizes the Importance of Patient Education and Reveals the Key to a Successful Medical Practice

Vicki Lyons, MD heads Western Medical Associates, LLC: "A Board Certified Allergy Practice Dedicated to Providing Quality Care"

OGDEN, UT, June 15, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- "What originally attracted me to the medical field was the science. As I've been in medicine now - from medical school to the present - for about 20 years, the human aspect [of medicine] has become significantly more important." So noted Dr. Vicki Lyons during an exclusive sit-down interview with Cambridge Publishing. Board certified in both internal medicine and immunology, Dr. Lyons established Western Medical Associates, LLC in 2003. An independent practice, Western Medical is state-of-the-art and able to provide patients with a full range of specialty treatments in the fields of allergy and immunology.

Dedicated to quality patient care, Dr. Lyons stresses the importance of patient education, which, she says is a core part of the patient/doctor experience. In fact, Western Medical Associates boasts its own electronic medical record system that has proved to be extremely successful as an educational aide for patients. Dr. Lyons, who makes every effort to remain current with the trends in her field, offers her patients the latest developments in the treatment of asthma and allergies. She is qualified to evaluate and treat allergic and non-allergic rhinitis, asthma, atopic dermatitis, eczema, food allergies, hay fever, hives and angioedema, sinusitis, nasal polyps, drug allergies, latex allergies, insect allergies, contact dermatitis, otitis media, and anaphylaxis. Other services at Western Medical include skin and blood testing, immunotherapy and spirometry.

Dr. Lyons is also a staff physician at McKay-Dee Hospital and holds clinical privileges at Ogden Medical Clinic, Ogden Regional Medical Center, and the Primary Children's Hospital at Logan Regional Medical Center. She has been an investigator for Intermountain Clinical Research since 1994, and is a former staff physician with Intermountain Allergy & Asthma. Aside from her clinical work, Dr. Lyons is the founder of Local Healthcare Today, an informative monthly magazine that relays health-related information from local physicians. Utilizing this medium, Dr. Lyons provides readers with informative material on a variety of topics including pet allergies and nutritional supplements. Deeply immersed in her specialty on a local, regional and national level, she attends frequent continuing medical education meetings to discuss the finer points of allergy, asthma and immunology with fellow healthcare professionals. Dr. Lyons also offers presentations and speaks at peer-attended engagements.

However scientific and precise her work, Dr. Lyons makes a conscious effort to always place the concerns of her patients first. She commented, "The most rewarding part of my work is making a difference in patients' lives—[by] taking on even some of the most difficult and challenging illnesses and helping patients work through them, educating and bringing them full circle to wellness, [as well as] enabling them to lead full, happy and productive lives." She looks forward to the continuing challenges that are always present in her field and embraces the opportunity to further educate her patients with regard to allergies and asthma.

Dr. Lyons participated in a fellowship in allergy and immunology at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and completed both her residency and internship in internal medicine at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. She earned her medical degree from Louisiana State University, Shreveport after finishing a fellowship at the National Institute of Health Study Research in 1986. Dr. Lyons also holds a bachelor of science in biology and was the recipient of a Presidential Scholastic Merit Scholarship. Her professional affiliations include the Utah Society of Allergy and Asthma, the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, and the American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology.
