/24-7PressRelease/ -- The board of directors of Alliance Française de Westchester is pleased to announce the appointment of Pierre-Yves Laporte as Executive Director.
Formerly a resident of Bordeaux, France, Monsieur Laporte holds a Doctorate in Law and Master's Degree in Political Science from the University of Bordeaux, and a Master's Degree in Political Science and African Studies from UCLA. He moved to New York in 1977, where he began a career in banking, insurance and financial consulting.
"In addition to operating our organization with a focus on long-term sustainability, my goals as Executive Director are to expand our course offerings with more ways to experience the French language and culture through social and cultural programming," he comments. "I hope to offer a cultural bridge not only to numerous Francophone countries worldwide, but also to the European culture which France shares with so many other countries. We live in a 'shrinking' world where it is vital to have an appreciation for the value of international understanding and cooperation. A grasp of French language and culture can be enormously beneficial to those doing business anywhere in Europe, so we offer French Business Language as well as a cultural course titled Contemporary France."
Pierre-Yves lives in Pelham with his wife Penny, and has two daughters, attending college in North Carolina and Pennsylvania. He is active in the community, including as a dedicated member of Rotary.
The Alliance offers a variety of social, cultural and educational programs, French language classes for children as well as adults, and business courses for professionals. The spring session begins Monday, April 13, 2009, running through Friday, July 3rd. Other regular events include a French Book Club and the ever popular Papotage (loosely translated as "Coffee Break Chats") meetings where participants chat informally on topics of their choosing with a native French speaking teacher. Native French- speakers with teaching experience are always encouraged to contact Docteur Laporte for job openings and additions to course offerings.
