LOS ANGELES, CA, March 11, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- LA's resident "green teen", 17 year-old Ally Maize, and her nonprofit organization, the Green Youth Movement, will be receiving an A.L.L.Y. Award at the Tween Town Hall Meeting on March 13th at UCLA's Hall of Fame. Hosted by AllyKatzz, the largest COPPA compliant tween girl social networking site, the A.L.L.Y. Awards aims to honor teen-founded nonprofits at an all-day event that aims to empower and inspire teen and tween girls.

150 young women aged 8-14 will be invading the Bruin campus to interact with celebrities, female athletes, media, policy makers, and marketers - bringing a whole new meaning to March Madness. Keeping with the proactive teen theme, Ally Maize will be spotlighted as one of the select teenagers who has launched her own non-profit. Maize and her Green Youth Movement (GYM) were chosen to be showcased based on their extraordinary aptitude for making a difference.

"After watching Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth, I became passionately aware of the danger our planet is in," said Maize about the driving force behind her forming GYM. "I felt that had the information come to me instead of my seeking it out, I could have gotten involved that much sooner. Teens are gaining the power to change the world."

Ever since her valiant revelation, Maize has been promoting green living and sustainable education amongst her peers. GYM has grown into a formidable force in the youth community, developing a population that will grow into the next generation of responsible consumers and making children and teens an integral part of the solution to climate change.

"Living sustainably is something that many young people are motivated to do, but the sources for education are lacking," Maize said. "Making a positive impact on the environment becomes much more doable when the solutions make sense and are readily accessible."

Through awareness-garnering events such as plantings, waterless car washes, "green girls nights out," green Halloween celebrations, and other prominent community outreach, Maize has followed her credo effectively by making it known that bettering our world is as easy as bettering your life.

"These teens highlight the very best of what youth today stands for," says AllyKatzz founder Denise Restauri. "They had the insight, the compassion, the courage, the willingness, and ultimately the commitment to stand up, speak out, and lead others by spearheading their own charities."

The Tween Town Hall Meeting is free and open to tweens, teens and parents. To apply to attend the AllyKatzz Tween Town Hall Meeting, visit http://www.tweentownhallmeeting.com.
