BUCCINASCO, ITALY, July 26, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- Six hundred teams hoping to reach the capital of Mongolia will set out from Milan, London and Barcelona. The goal of the rally is adventure and charity.
Up to this point there is nothing strange. The word 'rally ' in the title suggests it is a classical point-to- point race. You may have some doubts about the viability of the roads, but that's about it.
The real worry comes after a look at the list of vehicles: Fiat Panda or the legendary scooter Vespa? At this point it becomes crystal clear we are dealing with sheer madness. Those who make it to the stop-over in Prague will have one and only goal ... two, to be more exact: Survive & Arrive.
- 11000 km of route
- engine no bigger than 1 liter of milk
- approx 40 days to enjoy
- no assistance to spoil the sport
Still unconvinced? Well, some have tried to take a detour via Arctic Circle or Afghanistan.
And if they make it they will have to sell the car at a charity auction.
ALTEA brings you the possibility to stay in touch with the teams in real time and become a part of the charitable folly. Maybe you will even pick the vehicle to buy and then just pack a suitcase full of money, take your bike and fly to Ulan Baatar as well.
If you want to follow the daredevils, go to the ALTEA's site http://mongolrally.altea.net
Meet the Teams
The Godfathers: One is from Trieste, other from Rome. Together they are 75 years old, and decided to take their Panda Young 'Pandrino' to Mongolia. To encourage the crew, the Universe has sent a message. It came in the form of a Citroen from Spain heading towards Mongolia a year ago. Now it's their turn.

Mongol Passengers Team: Marzio, Jacopo, Patrizia, Marco are hoping to raise at least 5000 euro by September 2009. Let's keep fingers crossed for them and hope they make it even without the crudo and parmiggiano.

All-Ways in First: Who said the Swiss didn't like Italians. Or is this a real life experiment? Will the Swiss Industrial Designer survive the company of the Italian nautical engineer? Maybe they turn their vehicle into a desert-ship on the way from Milan to Ulan Baatar.

WATA-JO & ARDITI: 6 lads from Bologna who apart from madness also share a 'Luigi' fetishism. Whether San Luigi, Luigi Galvani or Luigi Bocconi, the name is always there. Will they also make him the patron saint of their enterprise? And would it help them?
