Audrey J. Murrell conducts research, teaching and consulting that helps organizations better utilize and engage their most important assets - their human and social capital. She is currently an Associate Professor of Business Administration, Psychology, Public and International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh, Katz/CBA School of Business. Dr. Murrell serves as the Director of the David Berg Center for Ethics and Leadership at the University of Pittsburgh. She received her B.S. from Howard University, magna cum laud in 1983, M.S. in 1985 and Ph.D. in 1987 from the University of Delaware. After obtaining her Ph.D., she joined the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh in 1987.

Professor Murrell instructs courses in Organizational Behavior, Men and Women at Work, Careers in Organizations, Business Communication and Workforce Diversity. Dr. Murrell conducts research on mentoring, careers in organizations, workplace/supplier diversity and social issues in management. This work has been published widely in management and psychology journals as well as book chapters and special issues. Popular media has also highlighted this work including the Wall Street Journal, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Atlanta Journal and Constitution, Pittsburgh Business Times, Cleveland Plain Dealer, Black Enterprise, Jet Magazine and Vida Executive (in Brazil).

Audrey Murrell has received numerous recognitions including finalist for the 2009 Athena Awards, recipient of the 2009 SBA Minority Business Champion of the Year, the University of Pittsburgh Student Choice Award, the "Women of Distinction" award from the Girls Scouts of Southwestern Pennsylvania, the Susan B. Anthony "Women of Vision" award from the Women's Leadership Assembly, the Community Service award from the Pennsylvania Job Corps Association, the Community Champion Award from the United Way of Allegheny County, the H.J. Zoffer Medal for Meritorious Service from the Katz Alumni Council and the Chancellor's Distinguished Public and Community Service Award from the University of Pittsburgh. She has been included in Outstanding Young Woman in America, received Phi Beta Kappa honors, the Kurt Ryder nomination for outstanding dissertation in the humanities while at Howard University, and was a member of Leadership Pittsburgh (Class XVI).

Dr. Murrell serves as a consultant in the areas of mentoring, leadership development, and workforce/supplier diversity. Her clients have included Alcoa, IBM, Microsoft, Heinz, Bayer, Eli Lilly, Kaiser Permanente, Fed-Ex Ground, Executive Leadership Council (ELC), National Association of Minorities in Communication (NAMIC), YWCA, Carnegie Libraries, Human Engineering Research Labs, Kent State University, Howard University and Hampton University. This work involves public, private and governmental organizations and includes numerous public forum and media appearances. She participated in a congressional briefing sponsored by Senator Arlen Spector (R-Pa) on the issue of affirmative action. Dr. Murrell is the author (along with Crosby and Ely) of the book entitled, Mentoring Dilemmas: Developmental Relationships within Multicultural Organizations and the recent book entitled, "IntelligentMentoring: How IBM Creates Value through People, Knowledge and Relationships" with Forte-Trummel and Bing. She served on the Allegheny County Minority, Women and Disadvantage Business Enterprise Certification Appeals Board and is the past-chair of the Gender and Diversity in Organizational Division of the Academy of Management Association.

Audrey's community service activities include serving as the board chair for Urban Youth Action Inc. and board secretary of Northside Christian Family Health Center. Her previous board memberships include: Family Services of Western PA, Fund for the Advancement of Minorities in Education (FAME), Leadership Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Presbyterian Foundation, FISA Foundation, Minority Enterprise Corporation of Southwestern PA, Manchester Citizens Corporation, Western PA Lung Alliance and Three Rivers Adoption Council. Professor Murrell has worked with the American Red Cross in the National Disaster Human Resources System, and previous member of the National Diversity Advisory Council in Washington, D.C
